A couple of suggestions:

1. Tipping your head back (or being on your hands and knees with your head up) will give you a streighter throat and an clearer passage to it.

2. Do it on an empty stomach so in case you gag, you won't throw anything up.

3. If you have an empty stomach, let your gag reflex do it's thing. It will squeeze the head in a way that he might like
