the sig line?

What do you look for or avoid in a sig line?

humor?
photos and gifs?
pearls of wisdom?
insight into the person posting?
or a "Yours truly, " closing?

I am curious as sig lines seem to be a fairly hot topic at times.

Oh, for KM and a few others?

What would make you want to turn on those sig lines?

;)

As with everything here, your sig line should be you or at least what you want to be you. Here in cyber fantasy land!

I typically don't look for anything in them and usually don't read what's in them... I think it's the content of the particular post that are important not what is found below them. There are of course exceptions but typically I don't like sig lines that are more than a line or two in length.... reading something once is good.. having to read it every time a poster posts can be aggrivating
never know when something might catch my eye though... a link to their stories or a website.. or some other words...

I can't say that I really look for anything in a sig line. I don't read sig lines any longer than mine. All the bells and whistles get on my nerves sometimes but I get over it fairly quick. :)

I think simple is best.

If I'd stop saying things that people tell me I should use for a sig-line, mine would stop growing.

It doesn't much matter to me what is in it, as long as it's not a mile longer than the actual post is.

That having been said, I'd like to know how to make mine all a smaller font size...

I'm still evolving here so I cahnge mine to my capricious whims. There are some really great ones here though.

I lack the artistic ability to come up with anything creative

Right now, I am using my sig line space, for advertising. Most of the time, I keep my sig line area neat and simple. I like to just keep a link to my poetry and maybe one quote from a friend/poster.
I like reading the short, and simple ones of other posters. With Halloween coming up, I have thought about adding a small gif image to my sig line.

I like sig lines. I change mine now and then to include funny links I've found...but I do agree that sig lines can be annoying.

I read sig lines sometimes.

There have even been a few with photos that I find appealing i.e. LTR's tastefully placed photo.

Putting links to your writings is a great idea. I don't make time to muddle through the lit story archives and sometimes wonder who is an author. If I find you interesting on the boards and you have a link to a story, I am bound to read it.

My sig lines vary from time to time. I've used song lyrics, latin phrases, or direct quotes from movies or people both famous or just from the boards here at Lit. (*Hence my "Siren" quote below. lol)

Usually it's just something that strikes me the right way at any particular moment.

I do pay attention to other's sig lines, with the exception of when they have large billboard pictures on them which tend to represent "quiz" results or things of that nature.

Interesting. Sometimes moreso than the actual post they are attached to.

What would it take to make me turn 'em on?

Laurel restricting the use of siglines to not more than 5 lines of text and nothing else. I hate pics in 'em. I hate animated gifs. I hate the twenty mile long poems, quotations from everyone who ever said anything interesting all at the same time, all of that junk. I say it's junk with authority because it gets in the way of reading posts.

Since Laurel is about as likely to ban junk siglines as she as about to ban herself, that's why I have 'em off and leave them off except on the odd occasion that I change my ad and wanna make sure the link works.

I would like to see, personally, text. Links are fine, but I like to read stuff from the user and not the War & Peace version, either.

I do think that overly large sig lines with flashy photos detract from the post.

I also have seen some that to me, detract from the character of the poster. Sometimes, too much is just that...too much.

Cool, brat.

I like the one you have today.

There are times quotes from songs or movies find their way into my sig line.

Sometimes, silliness...

such as, "Next?"

Sig lines never used to bother me but now they do. I agree with KM and MissT about the "junk" and overly flashy siglines. They totally annoy me now but I ignore it when I can.

As for my own personal sig, I tend to go with lyrics or quotes that reflect my moods at the moment. I usually keep it short and clean looking.

I read other sigs IF they aren't forever and a day long. If they contain the gifs and such, I will normally ignore it all together.

I rarely have a sig line. Occasionally a line in a book I'm reading or a song I'm listening too will seem particularly poignant or interesting to me and I'll post it, but that's about it.

Mine is either on or off depending on the level of "busy" sigs around at any given time. It's off now.

Visual clutter, here or in my real world surroundings is something I avoid.

Anything that sounds KEWL

I have sig lines off right now..

I miss reading them.. but I can't handle the flashing gifs and stuff a lot of them have.

I still think if the sig line is longer than the posters average post length. Then it's to long.
