How often do you lie?

Don't say never because everybody does. It's part of human nature.

It may be the little unintentional fib, or it may be the Big Jamoca, but we all do it.

I try not to when it really matters, but they still come out. It may just be something like ignoring an incoming call, then telling the person later you didn't have the phone with you or the battery was too weak to call back, etc.

I try not to say anything at all rather than lie, but, occasionally, for the sake of peace when dealing with the general public, coworkers, or my mother, I have fibbed. "I'd be happy to do that!" Sort of thing.

Otherwise, lying takes too much effort to remember.

I don't lie. I tell the truth to a fault.
In another life, I spent to much time covering up lies...
It's much easier the way I do it now.

You try not to lie when it really matters? That doesn't make any sense at all. It's a lie. Use it when it matters. :)

I'm a good liar, and it made me a good actress back in my high school theatre days. I used to a lie much more when I was younger, but I think a lot of people do. You start with fibs to your parents about homework and friends, and as a teenager and young adult, it's a reaction to insecurity/pressure to fit in. I'd pretend to like things I didn't, felt obligated to make excuses instead of saying "no," make up or embellish things to sound cool, etc.

I am much more honest as an adult. First, it's just easiest. Like yossi said, less to make up and less to remember. I care less about what other people think and have more trust in my closest personal relationships. Also, as a good liar, it's much easier for people to stop trusting me, and I've realized that it is really important to me to be a good steward of my own integrity.

If I lie now, it might be at work. Sometimes I have to bite my tongue or toe the party line for internal political reasons - ugh. I've also worked in marketing, and that's like 90% lying anyway, so. I also lie if the truth would hurt someone's feeling unnecessarily. For the most part, I try to avoid it and make an effort to be honest. I view staying quiet to hide the truth as on par with lying.

I once worked in a call centre for a mobile phone company. 'nuff said.

Exactly!

I don't lie anymore. Since I quit, my acne cleared up, I lost 20 lbs, and I sleep like a baby. :)

Daily, out of convenience.

My phone even has a pre-recorded lie. When it says "Sorry, I can't take your call right now", I totally can 9 out of 10 times. I just didn't wanna. Also, I'm not sorry at all.

Does this dress make me look fat?

The diplomatic approach: No, not all all, you look fine.

The Al Bundy approach: No, not at all, the FAT makes you look fat.

I have an irrational pet peeve: people starting their auto-responder out of office messages with "Thank you for your email."

Your name is remarkably honest, at least! :D

I've been trying to decide if that's Carolyn Jones playing Ophelia Addams or Lindsay Lohan after a hippie binder.

Well, I suppose it is possibly possible to never lie or fib if you make a determined effort and keep honesty in mind at all times. But is it worth that effort?
