I am reviewing my Silverbridge Chronicles, the first stories I posted on Literotica.

At present 11 stories are posted, 2 are pending, and 3 are in progress.

The total word count for all 16 today (with much more to come in the works being written) is 132,000 words.

Would you consider reading all that, even if 16 not-so-handy chunks?

Should I post it all as one single work in Novels and Novellas?

Advice welcome.

Og

It's not the words Ogs, it's what you do with them. The characters are engageing, the storylines fun and the descriptive work is a joy to read.

If you asked me if I would read a 132,000 word story I would probably balk. After reading one of the shorts, if you asked if I would read the rest, the answer is yes. The total words aren't a big deal once you get to know the characters and story.

I would prefer it broken down, I read slow, but I also like the idea of small sections that make me want to go on further.

Og, I do think you're stark staring mad, but that has little to do with you writing long stories. :D

I'd be inclined to read it, but in chopped up doses, as others have said. I can't ever be arsed to print things out and reading from a screen can get tiring, those are the main reasons why.

Tucked up in bed I read massive novels, but that's different.

Thank you all for the kind words above.

Of course, when I've finished the stories in progress the total opus will only be equivalent to three years NaNoWriMo entries - a mere bagatelle, and a small part of my total output.

However, I could add another 50,000 words by making this year's NaNoWriMo a part of the Silverbridge Chronicles. I have a few dozen spare characters and a few unwritten plots...

Wanders off humming "Climb every mountain..."

PS. Are the men in white coats approaching my door?

I'm convinced that the best way to post a long work to Literotica is as a bunch of stand-alone episodes. If you can give them separate titles (rather than "Whatever, Chapter 58"), so much the better.

You'll get far fewer reads if you post it as a novella. The rating will be probably be higher, because anyone who reads through to the end is reading because they like it, but the number of votes will be miniscule.

The next long work I publish will be as stand alone stories with the same characters but separate titles. It's the best way to go.

Aside from one or two AH authors I don't read any stories on Lit. (i.e., online) that are more than 3 or 4 Lit. pages. For erotica I prefer stories vs. novels. If there is a 'series' I prefer each part be unique.

I would not read it, my friend Og.

I would not read it in a fog.

I would not read in on a hog.

I do not like reading that much, it gets me in a rut.

And anyone who writes that much for free, is a nut.

Thank you.

That's a lot of reading but I have read longer books than that. It would have to be broken down into chunks, 16 might be allright. That would be, on the average, 8,250 words per chunk. Many of my stories are longer than that.:)

Dear Og - if you wrote it, it is worth reading.

Of course, I'd have to take it in pieces - a bit at a time.

And I agree with the good Doctor about making the titles different rather than chapters ad infinitum.

:)

Unlike those who have the attention span of a toy poodle,( :D )
I have no trouble reading longer stories.

If times seems to be too pressing, I'll simply print them out to read at leisure.

I have read many wonderful stories that took 12 -15 or more Lit pages, and conversely read those that I loathed that only took one Lit page.

As others have said. It is the quality of your work, not the word count that matters.

Personally I fail to see the problem.

Should I buy a novel at the book store, I may read as much or as little at one time as I see fit.

The stories here are free. I and paste em on my puter and read em at my leisure.

If the story grabs me, drags me to read it without pause, then cudos to you and maybe I would slip in some tongue.

The thing I hate is an author who starts a story an then like some soap operas it just stops, no finalization, no moral, no closure.

Yes I know the justification that as an author you do not owe the reader anything. B.S.

If it had never happened to me, or you, maybe I could claim that. It has happened to me and I didn't appreciate it.

I would rather not start if you intend to just leave me hanging.

Therefore I never submit stories unless they are complete unto themselves. Sequels can be read without ever having to have read the first story. (Though it is better should you choose to.)

My personal preference, this is, most assuredly.

I have noted that your story is popular, however I will not start reading it until it has concluded. I have read on other sites stories that are this near to fruition, but at the last minute the author disappeared, seventy segments into the story, leaving me and the other readers high and dry. One was so frustrated they finished the story themselves.

I am to this day, not convinced that is where the author was headed.

Dang this is way too much honesty for me...

Over 150,000 words

i've written a number of 50,000 word plus stories and one over 150,000 ( Rubies are Red. P & J 18).

I posted it chapter by chapter, trying to keep each one readable in isolation while trying to maintain two story-lines simultaneously. I think about 20 people read the whole story. But they did seem to enjoy it.

I did consider posting it in one go but as it took 15 months to write I'd have been long forgotten before I'd finished writing it.

Somebody did ask when I was going to submit it to the audio section. Jokingly I hoped.

Seriously Ogg, but this is just me...

I barely have time to write my own lately, let alone read a longgggggggggggg story like that.

The only chapter stories that tend to get me in... Captured (which I'm still waiting on chapter three *hint* * hint*)...

Penelope street keeps my attention too. She's one hell of a writer... sorry for turning this around... but trying to explain my tastes.

I'm too busy running a site, a growing room, trying to keep up with Halloween entries, and be social all in a day. The long stories seriously have to take a back seat for me.

You've opened a wound for me Ogg. I've been working months on a story I wanted to be a chaper novel. I've taken on more than I can chew lately and haven't had a moment to write. Fun or write... hm.... hard choice lol

That's me Ogg... I'd never get through a story that length.

Og,

There is one possible answer missing.
I am probably mad, but I tend to pick my books on size as well.
The bigger the better.

So, my answer would be: absolutely.

:D

When it's an author I know I can trust to tell a good story, word length is never an obstacle! In fact, like BT said, the bigger the better! I read very fast, and so I prefer something that can keep me entertained for a long time.
