How much feedback?

How much feedback do you usually get? For my first 4 stories I received about 2 or 3 e-mails a week when I first posted the story, whittling down to 1 a month after a while.

After the posting of my first non-fiction post (The ten commandments - see below), I've been getting 11 or 12 a day. What's normal?

Plus, anyone who wants to be on my e-mail list for sporadic future stories, e-mail or PM me and I'll try to remember to put you on.

I got more than ten feedbacks per day for 4 out of my 5 stories when I first submitted them. The one which didn't fare so well was A Beautiful Union Ch. 1 which was submitted in the Romance category. I just got one feedback for that one on the day it was submitted and that's all. No idea why. Maybe because it was the first part of a two-part story and people wanted to give feedback after they read the second part :confused:

I've only submitted two stories so far, so I haven't developed a "norm" yet.

Miss Nova was my first and went into the erotic couplings category. During the two days it was on the New list, I got about three dozen feedback emails, most of them on the first day.

The next one, A Memory of Red (romance category), got close to that number of feedbacks, but not nearly as many views.

I still get a straggler feedback or two a month, mostly for Miss Nova.

By the way, Mr. Earl, congrats on the success of your Ten Commandments :D

I usually get about 10 on teh first day of a new story and then it depends on teh category..incest/group sex tend to keep the momentum for a few days. When I submitted 3 stories with a few days of each other, I ended up with like 45 messages to respond to after a day, with some anon as well. Once the stories have been out for a week or so, I'll get around 5 or so a week, sometimes more, sometimes none. I try to respond to every feedback taht includes a return email, so sometimes I get a little backed up (especially if I wrote the story to procrastinate on a paper that I'm depserately writing at the last minute the day the story is posted)

I'm with Earl

I get maybe 2 to 5 feedbacks total for a story, and that's about it before it sinks below the waves.

The most feedback I ever got was for the shortest and silliest things I ever posted: a satirical "press release" announcing the discovery that money was an effective aphrodisiac, posted under "humor". I got maybe 7 or 8 replies.

Well, in the last few stories that I posted I received between 17-28 responses. Sadly the very last story that I posted received about one-seventh of the reads and only 8 votes.

I am assuming that I am a victim of my own bad timing. For instance, I have learned that it is a bad idea to submit a story on the Friday before a 3-day weekend. I got buried in about 100 submissions on November 12. Ouch.

Also, I think that if you have been writing a series you will receive fewer views of parts three and four than you did for the first few. I think that a reader will view a story and see if the author submitted anything that tickled his fancy, if so he'll return. I generally don't go to sequels or continuings stories if I didn't like the orignal too much. On the other hand I will eagerly anticipate the continuation of a story that I like.

Also, and this is just my 2-cents, I think that it is only proper Lit decorum to cast a vote. We all need feedback to see if we simply need improvement as writers. Since we can cast votes ranging from 1-5 (5 being the highest) I generally interpret the scale as this:

5=A
4=B
3=C
2=D
1=Please stop taking up precious bandwidth someone else could be using.

I'll take the time to respond to those who send feedback with an e-mail address, and I'll give the people who wrote to me a heads up that I've just submitted something new. The people who actually send a message with a link are worth a response.

By the way, sorry about the link below. Just another annoying problem for me to correct.

feedback

I've been very fortunate with feedback at times. My stories, "How to Eat Pussy Like a Champ" and "Blowjobs for Dummies" garnered nearly 100 feedback responses each. They were in my mailbox every day for a week, sometimes 20 per day.

I'm sure the key was my request for feedback! Simple but effective. People seemed thrilled to discuss their oral talents or ask questions. My favorite response was: thankyouthankyouthankyou....

My recommendation? Ask and you shall receive. Best of luck.
