Wondering what is an average amount. Does it vary depending on what genre the story is in? I would assume long stories get less votes as some people dont have the patience to read the whole thing. Just curious on what is normal behavior at literotica.com

Hmmm... I dont think the words normal and Literotica fit in the same sentence.

Hi, Slick.
I have started keeping track, just out of curiosity, and it is .2%. That is one vote per 500 views, but you have to remember that a "view" is not somebody reading the story. It might be somebody who glanced at a story and decided not to read it. That .2% is for me; for others it is certainly different. The best I have ever done is .86% on a non-human story. Otherwise, the genre, for me anyhow, doesn't seem to make much difference. The longest stories I have written, one novella and two romances, seem to do better as a percentage but they get far fewer views than short stories.

It seems to be that, generally, categories that attracts fewer readers have a higher vote ratio. The prime example of this would be poetry. Poems gets very few reads, maybe 100 to 200 in the opening week. But those gets a handful of votes, well over 2%. Sometimes over 10%.

The "regular" categories (Couplings, First, Wives et al) attracts the most casual browsers and thus the least interrested readers.

Best vote and feedback ratio so far on a story for me was in Sci-fi. Worst in Couplings.

Views vary according to category.

When I moved stories from Gay Male to Erotic Fiction the view levels dipped noticeably. The older GM stories get around about 11 to 15 votes for 5,000 - 7,000 views. But they are generally good votes :D

Intresting...

I thought I was having few votes but since I am now at 178 votes to 23600 views I am getting .75% which is not bad.
Though I really prefer to get lots of feedback. If someone thinks its a 3 and another thinks it deserves a 5 then I'm more intrested on why they believe this.

I've been wondering too...

I had a story go up a few days ago and I've been wondering the same thing about the voting numbers. It's a longish story at 7000 words, in the Erotic Couplings section, to date I've had 10 positive and encouraging feedback emails, 5 public comments, 7200 views and 40 votes and one response to a new story listing post.

I've noticed that I'm getting a few more views for a non fiction piece I posted to the How To section back in November, possibly as a result of the new story listing?

Out of all of that, I'm most delighted with the written feedback of course, it's nice to know you've actually made a connection with someone and that they perhaps feel something for the characters you've created, or that that they just thought it was hot.

slicknhb I'd be blown away if a story of mine reached 23000 views. WOW.:)

From the english stories...I have .7% on the most read one (1735 views), and 0.4% on the least read one (1380 views). But they have only been up a few days so might not say much yet.

Ive gotten about 10 feedbacks sent to me tho.

Mine varies. The highest I have had is .8% of the readers voted. It all depends on the catagory.

You must have very active viewers. I wish I did. Although the number views is not particularly high, the percentage of voters is. .45% for one and 1% for the other.

I had two stories posted on the same day. Here's the numbers as of today:

Story 1. 18,437 views. 107 votes. Category: Interracial

Story 2. 941 views. 9 votes. Category: Romance

Both stories were posted on the 13th. I guess this shows the disparity you can have in numbers of views versus categories.

30 votes out of 5441 viewings for an Erotic Couplings story that went up today. 2 public comments and no email feedback.

73 votes out of 22916 viewings for a Group Sex story that went up 6 days ago. No public comments and 1 anonymous email feedback.

Try writing a lesbian story. They seem very popular.

I liked your How to story "Weapons of Mass Seduction", great title!!!

I hardly ever look at the vote amounts anymore. I will scan them, usually looking at the total reads and being amazed. (of course some reloads and double hits...but still...damn.:)

Thanks Slick, quite liked that title myself, part of me kind of wishes I'd saved it to use on something a bit more clever than that little, first, coy foray into writing. I'm thankfully not so shy anymore.:)
I've got lovely folks sending me detailed analyses of my characters and their motivations. Too beautiful!
