The "some counties" you refer to are the dozen or so blue counties that are the most densely populated areas in the state. Most of them are purple at a minimum, and getting bluer with every election cycle. Most of the red counties in Texas are fucking wastelands, the primary industry is meth production and Dodge RAM dealerships.

My corporate president drives an EV and lives in Dallas, every now and then he'll commute down to Houston.

It was always an adventure having him call us about midway through his trip and ask us to google electronic charging stations in Shitbroke county or something. Now Buc-ees has charging stations at all of their Texas monolith gas stations so it's not as much fun.

As everything gets more expensive and less available, combining random parts of whatever is available may become more common. Putting some sort of engine in an EV body may become a standard solution. But the fancy features on Teslas like gullwing doors massively increase the parts cost and difficulty of replacement. In a salvage phase of the car industry, Teslas may be mostly scrap metal.
