I was wondering if I'm the only person that has done this.

Come up with a story. Spend hours developing the story and writing it. Only to find out that in the end you think it sucks.

So far I've had this happen to 3 stories I've writtien.

Once I finished them. I read it a couple days later to only find out I think it's as boring as hell.

The last one I did I'm really ticked off at. I don't even want to tell you how many chapters it is. It began good and now what a peice of crap!

I was going to see if I can save it by revamping things, but as of right now I'm just so pissed I don't want to look at it. I want to scream!!! AHHH!

So I guess I'm just asking is this a common thing with writing.

My second story fits that. It is a one page foot fetish thing that I put up just to see what it would do. It has a decent score (over 4.6) but since then I have made a name for myself in the realm of hardcore BDSM sex and incest and this thing just seems so....silly

Oh yes, constantly

This is true of just about anything I've ever written. Don't let it frustrate you, though - keep plugging away until you end up with something you aren't completely ashamed to have created (I say "completely" because I assume we're all at least a little bit ashamed of what we're doing creatively, or else I don't think you're doing it right). Getting through that "trash it all" phase is a big challenge, but you'll figure it out.
=tt

It's happened to me before. I was about half way in writing a story for the Halloween contest, then I realized that the story itself isn't as hot as the idea itself, so I stopped writing it because the fun wasn't there anymore.

When that happens, there's no point in throwing the whole thing away, so I just take the best part(s) and use them for other stories.

I've got a whole folder called "half-baked" that is full of nothing but aborted stories. Some are just starts, but some are complete, only lacking my willingness to post them because I think they're crap :p

I go through it when I'm sitting with no really good ideas, and I've pulled three or four out of the half-baked recycle bin to turn into successful stories. Many more have had good scenes cut out to be recycled into new works.

I have several hundred part-completed stories that come under the category of stories that didn't work.

Some are very short, under 750 words, but most are several thousand words.

Sometimes a massive rethink and extensive edit will salvage one or two, but most get reviewed once or twice a year and left in the heap.

I have stories I don't like as well as others (and often am surprised that the Lit. voters like them better than what I think are better stories), but nearly every one I'm hesitant about finishing turns out better than I expected it to.

If I don't like it, I don't post it.

I actually have several stoies I wrote a while back. I've read them through and don't like them so I don't post them.

Several, but other people seem to like them. Go figure.

*laugh* I've had a couple that I thought were barely acceptable that went through the roof when they posted.

I look back on them now, and I still think they're barely acceptable, but it's hard to argue with the reader response.

It cuts both ways. I've had some I thought were junk but posted anyway; didn't get great reviews, but not terrible either. Some I thought were really good, and didn't get even poor reviews. In the end, you either give up entirely or just keep going, because you have to.

I actually dislike one of the only two stories I've managed to get a Hot rating for. (It's part 3 of what will eventually become a longer series, so when I return to it, I intend to rewrite it and improve it. Hopefully, I won't just make it worse . . .)
