Hi everyone, I wrote my first 50 K story and submitted it with one image - I was wondering how long will it take to be published? I submitted it 4 days ago today.

Nobody knows.

That's the actual answer. Mine typically get posted in, oh, 3-5 days, but sometimes it's longer, other times shorter. The one generalization that seems to hold true is that contest entries often get expedited.

You have two strikes against you. You're new, meaning there's likely to be greater scrutiny and thus a longer time pending. And two, you sent in an image, meaning your story will default to "Illustrated," and those often seem to get published in batches. Like the Audio submissions.

DO NOT, in checking back over your submission, open the file and look at it. Doing that will make the computer treat it as a new submission, which moves you to the back of the queue.

Anyway. Nobody knows.

With an image included, a very long time - Voboy is absolutely right.

I'd consider resubmitting the story without the image, and put it into the applicable category. It's the words tell the story, not one illustration.

Standard, no image, 259,200 second or around 72 hours... 3 days.

With an image? Yep, no one knows. And then if the image is too graphic it will be rejected or if you don't own the image it will be rejected.

As an option, submit it without the image; that should get it posted sooner. Once it’s up, resubmit with the image as an edit. It will take a while, but it’s up.
Thanks! I took your advice and resubmitted yesterday :)

My story changed from pending to new, but is not showing up in my works section yet - anyone have any ideas?

That means it will go up tomorrow.

When they approve it for publication, it switches status in your view, but they make all the day's submissions "live" at once. Midnight pacific time, I think.

I'm actually having a similar issue right now; my story has been pending for more than eight days. The first time it was rejected; once those edits were made, I resubmitted and then eight days have passed. Some people say don't click on the story when its pending. I haven't done that at all although that is a good tidbit moving forward. My first story was published in about five days. This new story is longer and again, I had to resubmit with new edits but eight days in pending...I wonder if that's common.

OK, you’re relatively new and the work of new authors is inspected more fully. There’s inherent delay right there.

You said it is longer, but didn’t say just how long. If it is fairly long, that can add more delay.

Also, your story was rejected and this is a resubmission. You didn’t say why it was rejected, but the site could well be giving it a more thorough skimming just for that reason. More delay…

Finally, the site is starting a major contest (Nude Day) and that always slows things down across the board.

All that said, yes, eight days is a long time. I would wait a couple of more days and then PM Laurel, the owner.

Good luck.

Edit. Just to be clear, you can open a pending story and read it without grief. However, should you make the slightest change or rehit the Submit icon, then it goes right to the end of the queue all over again.
