How long to wait between chapters?

Any suggestions on how long I should wait before posting the next chapter?

There's no rule. I've noticed many authors aim for a once-a-week posting, but I've seen others with a completed story submit so that chapters post every day. You might want to wait to see how long this takes to post or how many comments you get or whatever, but like I said -- there's no rule. I know a lot of readers would probably appreciate a chapter every day.

Stories stay on the New list for seven days.

Chapters submitted all together will generally post one chapter per day unless you make a specific request for a longer posting schedule.

Whatever interval you choose, stay consistent; don't submit chapters at different intervals within the same story. The exception is if you choose a "weekdays" posting schedule; readers aren't usually upset about not seeing new chapters over the weekend.

Don't forget to factor in the (approx) four days lead time between submission and posting. The lead time makes submitting the entire story at once for daily posting the most reliable way to post to a specific schedule.

I've usually submitted the next installment when the one before it has posted--to make sure that everything is moving smoothly. At the moment that would mean they posted four days apart.

I always submitted on Tuesdays so the chapter would go up on Friday I would do that every week. However the days that it takes to post have not been as regular lately, so not sure that works to try to time the same day all the time.

For best results put them up quickly. If you keep the chapters coming quickly you have a great chance of keeping your core audience from forgetting about you and it will be great for votes and views.

Put a link to your stories in your sig line. It will help the lazy people to get there easier.

I usually give it 3 days in between. Even if you post them back to back, it still takes time for the chapter to be posted and they'll wait a day or 2 for the next. If your story is done, submit the first and wait a week as suggested and see how well it is received and what comments you get. It might make you change a few things in the next ones to improve something that's missing or lacking in it.

Rubysen had a gap of about 5 years between chapters on one story, and the late one seemed to do ok.

Ooops... sounds like I should work harder at posting more regularly but I can only write when I'm in the mood. *shrugs* Hope readers will be patient enough to wait to or three weeks between chapters

I posted one story about three years ago and I still haven't followed it up with a second story yet. I've got a few completed stories that I'm on the fence about submitting, but I figure eventually I'll actually submit one.
