How long should editing really take.

This is actually two questions, the first is how long should it take to get results back. I submitted a story for editing in late May, and I still don't know if the story was even read. I've had a few friends review it since, do I actually need and editor to sign off before I can submit the story to literotica. I'm wondering, because I have a story I want to submit for Nude day, but if its going to take a month to get results back, whats the point.

Who did you submit the story to? A month seems rather excessive.

No, you don't need to have an editor sign off on your story, you can submit it "as is".

Ok,

I'm going to try submiting it now.

each editor works at different paces. For me, i normally take 1-3 days, depending on the length of it, others may take longer. You should probably ask the editor how long s/he expects it to take before they get it back to you.

Sometiems an editor will just up and leave, and all projects they've been handed are considered null by them. Personally I know several editors here who are NOT like that, and have come across a few who are, so if it's taking a while for one, try contacting another.

Just my two cents.

Oh, you mean you didn't specify that it wasn't for next year's Nude Day contest?
Well, surely now the confusion has been curtailed. :D

But...I'm still confused. Is that the Nude Day contest where people are naked for a day?

Seriously, does anyone know where this poor guy sent his story for editing, and whether there was any actual contact with the editor. I get the distinct feeling he chose a name who's still on the list but has been MIA since Ronald Reagan was Death Valley Dazed. If that's not the case, then somebody dropped the ball big time.

Little did the boy know he was sending his story off to be read in the confines of Jimmy Hoffa's burial place.

Volunteer Editors are just that, volunteers. There may be connectivity issues, personal issues, etc. that may explain a delay in receiving an edited product. I'm only raising remote possibilities.

All I can say is that as an editor I, personally, only accept a few writers at a time. This enables me to return edited stories within 12-36 hours of receipt. Being a writer myself I know the frustration of having to wait (which is why I self-edit my own stories now, which has worked out quite well for me). It's possible some editors may be taking on too much of a workload, or other factors have caused delays.

If I was you, I would've been screaming after 4-5 days, expecially given the time-sensitive nature of a contest. Just because they're volunteers doesn't mean you're not entitled to a timetable to know when to expect results.

Not sure if this is the same....

I submitted a story to the literotica site, and it's status has been listed as "pending" for at almost a week. I was wondering if that's normal, or if stories are usually approved faster than that.

Oh how I miss MathGirl!

To quote some of her more famous responses:
"Usually three to five days. Up to a week if the editor's bleeding piles are acting up."
"Usually three to five days. May take up to a week if the story contains sex with sheep or renting of pigs."
" Usually three to five days. Sometimes as long as a week if the editor is out chasing cats again."
"Usually three to five days. Sometimes up to a week if the editor has committed ritual sepuku."

And to show she won't mind:
" I would be SO pleased if someone liked my stuff enough to steal it."
Nowadays it seems to be nearer ten days.

As a VE with one too many balls in the air (collective minds outta the gutter, please), I have to agree with AS here. Even if RL intervenes, longer than 5 days is a bit much. The only possible exceptions to that I can think of would be if the story is 25 pages or longer or if the grammar/punctuaction is so bad a reference book is needed.

I offer this for what it's worth to you.
