Hi! Welcome! Poems generally are accepted in about 72 hours. Stories can take up to two weeks. If you do the copy/paste submitting, then plan exactly two weeks. They say that if you submit a work as a file (i.e., a .doc file), then it'll take longer, but those have actually taken less time for me.

You won't get any kind of email notification or anything when you're story's accepted. I didn't know my first story had been accepted until I got feedback by email the next day. You'll just have to check your personal submissions page every so often.

Here's my "now that's just weird" thing... I submitted a story a few months ago that was rejected because it was too long. I'm still not sure how to pump it up without ruining the integrity of it. Anyway, that's neither here nor there. It's had 132 hits as of yesterday, and it's not posted anywhere.

thanks

thank you celticlass. i was getting a bit worried there for a second. thought they'd rejected it and i'd made a total arse of meself. first time i'd shared any of my stories in public so i was a wee bit on the nervous side. i had a quick look at your stories and i love the restaurant one. i have one very similar to it myself. in fact, the opening lines are very similar. i'll be posting that one when (and if) the initial 2 ive submiited are accepted. anyhoo... i've prattled on long enough and gotten way too far from the point of this post which was to thank you, you've certainly eased me mind a bit :)

Just fyi - rejection of a story doesn't make you an arse - it simply means that the story has a problem which requires correction. I've sent a novel out for mainstream publication - 14 times now. To me, the 13 rejection notices only mean that I've sent it to the wrong 13 publishers, not that I'm defective or that it isn't worthy.

If you aren't accepted - go to the Volunteer Editors List and ask for someone to help iron out the story's weaknesses.

thank you kbate.... maybe a bad choice of words on my part but you know what i mean :) i have to say i love your confidence and outlook re the rejections. fantastic way to look at things. i hope in the not too distant future there will be 13 very pissed off editors. maybe i'm just bein a bit on the oul sensitive side... first time and all that :) thanks again for your words of encouragement and the hint on the editors too :)

Hang tough

I put a story in and it was rejected several times. Mostly for spelling. At least that was the reason given. I was asked if I had checked the spelling and I know that I had. I finally asked what was wrong with the spelling and that I had seen much worse spelling and grammar in other stories. It was accepted.
