The social security

fund is broke because Congress keeps using the money to support every program they pass like all the pork barrel projects. Years ago they allowed all federal workers who received a government pension to pay into social security so they could file for social security and receive their government pensions. This was repealed but not before the damage was done.

^^^^ this ... in the "trust" fund that is supposed to be Social Security are hundreds of IOU's from congress. If they had really invested your contributions in a private fund, you would be getting 5-10 times more at retirement.

This is something I hear constantly in my country - end welfare, get a job, etc.
But then I also hear the stats on employment..... In my city alone there are about 9500 people out of work. Last week there were 16 jobs advertised. 16.
And next week yet another business is closing the doors, adding another 300+ people to the unemployment list.
End welfare? Ok.
But then don't cry when the stats on breakins and robberies go up because people through no fault of their own suddenly turn to other means to eat.
