No, it's NOT a given it happens in every marriage. Also it doesn't inevitably lead to cheating or wanting to open the marriage.

However, it may be caused by not really being satisfied (not knowing what they want, or sex not being fulfilling due to partner, or incompatibility). Or being exhausted or depressed or stressed. Heck, I'd be too tired to have sex every other day despite wanting to.... And premenopause can already mix things up, too. Or p-pills.
