How far in advance can you submit a story?

I'm finishing up a story which I want to be up on the site on 1st July. If I finish it this week, can I submit it and put a word in the "Note to Admin" to have it show up on 1st July? I don't believe Lit has a feature to schedule a future submission. In absence of that, I do believe it would be an undue burden on Laurel to have to remember this instruction a month from now.

In the past I have asked Laurel to bring my story up on a specific day of the week, but not something like this. The reason why I'm keen on the 1st of July is that it marks 10 years of me on Lit and I would like this story to commemorate that. I'm just undecided if I can submit it now or do I need to wait till the last week of June. I would like to give a lead-up period of 1 week for Laurel to screen the story in case she has any last-minute issues.

What is your advice?

By and large, you can't schedule them. I've heard a few people say they've put notes requesting specific dates, and not a lot of them came out on those days. They went through wherever they were in the queue.

You might be able to convince Laurel in advance, but that's the only real hope you have of hitting a specific target like that. She might not want to deal with a bunch of special requests citing the precedent, so it could be a non-starter, and the reason why such requests in the notes section have a low ( and possibly coincidental ) success rate.

For a contest, Laurel has said in the past, 'up to a week ahead'.

It usually takes 2-3 days if you copy and paste the story in the text field of the submission section, a whole lot longer if you upload the submission.
There's no way of being absolutely sure it will come on the same day you plan to. A lot of people have tried to time it right for holidays but end up early or late on that as well.

Technically the site can schedule a staggered release of chapters exactly one day apart on the midnight server run, so there must be a date field can be set; but as RR notes, if a precedent gets set for one person, everyone will want an anniversary special.

I reckon you should place yourself in the queue along with everybody else.

A decade of perv though, well done! Buy yourself a card and take yourself out for dinner :).

Hell, if I meet you in the bar, I’ll buy the first round.

I have two that went up on 01/03/2010 and one on 12/27/2011

I never even thought about such an anniversary.

I've always had my requested publication date honored. I prefer my stories be published on a Monday. My last story, I submitted it on a Tuesday, and it was published on Monday like I wanted. That's the longest I've submitted in advance. I submit mine through the text box.

I've done it. I put a note in the admin area, and she posted it on the day I asked. Now the bad part. When I said month/day, she posted it that day (midafternoon). Instead of with the run the night before. It missed a lot of traffic and votes because of that, so be specific.

I have to admit I didn't give her much time, so maybe that factored into it. Also, about 10 hours later, an event was posted and wiped it right off the map!
