The U.S. Post Office has been receiving complaints about how long the patrons are waiting in line to get service.

So to alleviate this complaint problem the post office has come up a new customer satisfaction plan. They are going to remove one thing from all post offices across the country. The feel the removal of this item will streamline the process of going to the post office to mail a package, letter or buy stamps, etc.

Can anyone guess what that one thing is? Probably not as it's just to ridiculous to fathom.

It's Clocks! That's right they are going to remove all the clocks from the public spaces of the post office!

I guess they think we're so dumb that we won't know that we're still waiting the same length of time 'cuz there's no clock.

And I guess we don't wear/carry a watch either.
 
Jesus Christ...*heavy sigh*...and people wonder why this country is going to Hell in a pic-a-nic basket. BooBoo could have come up with something better than that.

The plan is for the public schools to turn out people so dumbed down that they can't tell time, even with a digital watch. I think that they may be succeeding.
 
I must say that it was a rather refreshing use of bilateral thinking.

Ok, the result was rather stupid. But you can't blame them for not being creative.

Okay, I actually use this method during births... I cover all the clocks (annoys the hell out of the nurses but too bad :p ) Mom loses track of time and doesn't focus on how long she's been in labor... and doesn't think about how much longer she has to go...

but I think I'm using my powers for good, in that case... the post office, however... :rolleyes: With great power, comes great responsibility.......
 
Pff! Thats nothing. In sweden, there IS no post offices, they´ve "saved" them to. If you want to get some info about what to pay to send something, you´ll go to your... Convinient store! Thats right boys and girls! If you want a stamp you can just as well but the days dinner at the same time.

There is something names Swedish Cashier Service (Svensk kassaservice), but that is just there to deliver bad service and hire pesky old persons that takes 45 swedish crowns (around 6.3 USD) to send away the bills for you. I am glad I do it myself.

There would b a lot less hatred in the world if all people realized we are all in the same boat together when it omes to government screwing you, no matter if your american, swedish, israeli, iranian, brasilian/whatever. There´s always a government there to make fun out of you.
 
I think this is just a plot by the post office to cover up the fact that most postal employees are unable to tell time.

They have guns and know how to use them though :eek:

WARNING: Here comes an old man's rant.

The postal service is constantly getting worse. A few years ago, mail was delivered to my door. We bought a new house in a different city :( and had to have a RFD mailbox at the end of our driveway. In our current house, we have to walk down the block to the community mailbox to get our mail. :mad:

There used to be plenty of mailboxes, one on almost every corner in a business district and even enough in residential areas. They have all disappeared now, except they usually have one in front of the post office where they aren't really needed as much. :confused: Even the smallest towns used to have post offices, sometimes more than one. They have almost disappeared too, except for a few in larger cities. At one time, you could mail a letter in the morning and have it delivered in the same city that same afternoon. Now, it takes at least a day, maybe more. :mad:

Growing up, I paid three cents for a firsr class mail stamp. Now, it costs 39 cents, thirteen times as much, even more than the rate of inflation. In other words, we are paying much more money for much worse service. :mad:

Nonetheless, you can reliably send a letter across the country for 39 cents - quite a bargain, if you ask me, and a boon to American businesses for years. FedEx charges over $6.50 for similar service, up to a pound. (No letter rate.) And you'll wait in line at FedEx, too.

Either you have people waiting in line sometimes, or you have workers sitting doing nothing sometimes. (As Roxanne would say, "Utopia is not an option.")

Nonetheless, you have 200 million self-described customer service experts pissing and moaning about government-provided services and unions. :confused:

It is true that long-distance mail service is better now than it used to be. Mail sent cross-country gets there faster than it did sixty years ago. However, local service, especially for private individuals, has been trashed, in ways I described in my post.

FEDEX et al are mainly in the business of delivering parcels, not letters, and they generally do it better than the USPS does.

Call me an idiot if you like but wouldn't it make more sense to give the staff more/better training so they can work more efficiently and therefore faster?!

I don't wear a watch. Makes me worry about what time it is and how much I have to do before a given time. I do what I do and it takes as long as it takes.

Can someone tell me what you do at a post office anyway?

I get stamps from the ATM, I ship everything UPS, my bills are all paid online...

Pretty much, I haven't stepped into a post office in over a year minimum.

Omg, those fucking douche bags! Don't even get me started on the postal service, they make me want to uh...go postal. I've been dealing with them over a shipping insurance claim for almost six months now. :mad:

On a sidenote: Once I met this woman at a human resources seminar and she was a motivational speaker and customer service expert. She told me that the only job that ever made her want to commit suicide was trying to teach postal workers how to give better customer service!

Hey, I read that they were just going to put up signs that said, "At least we're not the Department of Motor Vehicles."

I also read an article that said the post office is considering issuing a stamp that would still be good even if the rates increased. For example a single .39 cent stamp would still mail a letter even if rates increased to $2.00 for a first class letter. I don't what they're thinking, but I'm cashing in my 401k.

Given inflation, I'm not sure that's a huge relative increase.

I don't remember where I heard it, but somewhere I heard the phrase "You want it good, you want it fast, and you want it cheap. You can only have two". I believe it was in reference to construction, but it applies to almost every commercial transaction of life. If you're willing to be patient, the price of things usually drops. If you don't care about quality, you can get something cheap and quick (fast food hamburgers for example, or a lot of the shoddy construction that has gone up in San Diego in the past few years). But if you want quality and want it now, you have to be willing to pay.

Far too much of the American culture is based off of wanting to have our cake and eat it too. We* want quality service provided by government agencies, but don't want our taxes raised to pay for it. (*Amicus and a few others would probably be perfectly happy to have almost no government services)

Don't like the long lines at the postal service? Go to Kinkos and send your package/document FedEx. Sure, you'll pay a little more (in many cases, although not always. I was pleasantly surprised how competitive FedEx's rate was the last time I mailed a 20+ pound package cross country). Or, try not going in the same two hours of the day everyone else is.

As for the eternal stamp, again, based on inflation you'd be likely to lose money if you sunk a lot of money into them, which is why it's not a bad idea. It certainly wouldn't outpace your 401k, which should return 6-12% annually depending on your asset allocation and risk level.
