how do you transcribe a sound?

i'm trying to put a noise in my stories. the closest phonetic would be "eu", a sound made for example like, "Eu. daddy, give it to me". "ooooooooh" i'm afraid would be read as "O". "ewwww" sounds like "yuck, disgust". if you've ever seen a mae west movie, think of the purr she gives sometimes and think of how you'd write that sound.

I use "Ohhh" and "Ahhh" to suggest a longer sound - just having the extra letters seems to work as a shorthand. Long letter strings seem excessive to me - but I have no idea how readers are sounding out what I write.
