I didn't have expectations, because it's some kind of a new strategy. I'll wait & see how it plays out. I watched Viet Nam on TV every night, so I probably have higher benchmarks for death & duration than younger boardmembers do.

I wouldn't want to be the guy trying to follow Schwartzkopf's act.

We could have made Baghdad nothing more than asphalt at this point, but we haven't. We are suffering loss of fine human beings because of that.
But I can't quibble with the outcome so far. Iraqis have suffered immensely under Saddam for over two decades, and to expect them to suddenly become a free people in a matter of days is unrealistic. There are people in Saddam's regime who must fight to the death, simply because if they survive they will be put to death as vicious, murdering criminals who terrorized the citizenry for years.
But this is not a matter of Iraqi liberation. This is a matter of U.S. security and making sure Saddam won't harm us in the future. Anyone who knows anything about his history would be totally naive to think he was not a threat to the U.S. and its citizens.

Some random thoughts:

Iraqis carry gas masks because every army in the world does, kids.

Iraqi soldiers go barefoot in the desert not due to poverty, but because they have for 1,000 years. They live in sand. Ever been to the beach, fool?

Iraqis build berms not to "hide" WMD plants, but to lessen the effects of sandstorms and to mark property lines.

They carry wads of cash because the dinar is worth squat thanx to Sanctions....a half inch thick wad of of bills is like 10 yankeebux.

They aren't giving bouquets of flowers to Invading soldiers...because you're bombing them... again.

A 200 mile supply route with no cover? Ha!

Half the US Army is in Iraq....I sincerely hope North Korea doesn't start lobbing Duong 3 missiles at California.

Millions of Iraqis own guns. You are bombing their homes. Good luck.

75 Billion dollars for 30 days of killings and misery....you could have bought every Iraqi a house and a used Chevy filled with Levis, Britney cd's and Happy Meals.

The Republicans will be as hated as the Republican Guard before this is over.
