Marshal Mc Cluen maintained that reading the daily news paper was like geting in to a bath, something you kind of immersed yourself into.

I scan the front page and see if there is anything urgent, and then go find the comics. Once I'm through I go to the editoral page, look at the cartoons, and read the letters to the editor before I read the editorials. Then I look at the local news and see whats cooking in the Want Ads, usally good for a laugh or two.

How do you read the paper?

I start at the front page, scan my way through.
Then spend the rest of the day taking my time and reading whatever catches my eye.
I'm kinda inclined to check out hatches, matches and dispatches before anything else though.
And i save the comics for last.

Sports first, then the balance.

Usually after sports I goto the front page and scan for interesting stories.............

On Sundays I read sports, then "sale" ads, then the "perspective" section and then the balance.

With an eye towards learning something new and interesting or, at the very least, informative.

I read the entire paper (with the exception of the classified ads) front to back in order. (Can we say anal retentive?) ;) When I am done with my local paper, I then peruse a number of national dailies so I can get different perspectives. Of course this may take all day, as they frown on it at work if I sit there reading!

But I enjoy everything from headlines to science articles, sports to the local police beat. Dear Abby, comics and horoscopes to the stock quotes.

Eegads! My name is Barb Dwyer and I am a news junkie!

I am a circulation manager for a newspaper.

I start with the headlines and the pictures, then I read through the story that caught my interest first. Then back to page one, and go again.

I don't stop until I have read each page in all the sections but the ads.

Habit I guess.

I start from the first page and work my way to the last page...including the sports and classifieds...

See what the headline is in on the front page then it's straight to the back page to the sport and work my way through the sport page's, then when I get's to the classified's , I flip back to the front page and start reading throu' till I get to the classified's again :)

If I had to think about it, I guess I read the each headline or story title, then selected stories.

The only section I read religiously is the Business section.

But on an aside note, I really only use the paper to figure out what's looming. I subscribe to so many magazines (40 at last count) and email newsletters, and visit so many internet topic oriented and news sites a day that I'm constantly in data gathering mode.

40 magazine! That's a bit much isn't it?
Unless it's Playboy, Penthouse, FHM.....etc etc :D

What can I say, I read a lot. I also average almost a novel a week, and that doesn't count technical books or work related stuff.

A novel a week? I think I would read that much too if I could find enough books that I like, although I'm finding that somewhat difficult at the moment.....what's your book of the week then?

Black House - the follow up to The Talisman by Stephen King & Peter Straub

And don't forget, somewhere in there I find time to write the about one erotic story a month...

Phew....that's a lotta work!
That reminds me, I'd better start writing a new story soon.....everytime I think I should start I somehow end up doing something else.

When I lived in NY I'd read the paper on the subway, and reading a newspaper on public transportation is an art form. As personal space is at a premium you are encouraged to follow protocol, and read the paper by folding it to the exact size of the column you are reading. You must learn to not only turn pages with a modicum of paper flapping, but also how to turn columns themselves without getting lost. The Daily News and The Post were the subway papers of choice -- the NY Times and The Wall Street Journal were too big and too annoying to utilize this method.

The Sunday Times, of course, is a NY ritual. The most common way to read the Times was start from page one and work your way through to page 2000, stopping only to do the Times Crossword puzzle.

Now that I live in LA I don't read the paper, but get all my world news from Access Hollywood.

I don't read a newspaper. The damn thing is printed too small for me to read, so I just watch or listen to the news reporst or find out what's happening online. I don't get my fingers all black from the ink that way either. :)

i skim the first section looking for important stuff... then i turn to the local stuff.. the comics next.. and then the crossword puzzle just for kicks
