i took some pictures but didn't notice until later some stuff in the background i don't want there how can i remove it without totally ruining the picture?

This will depend on what photo editing soft ware you have. MS Paint comes on almost all Windows computers. It can copy a patch from one part of the pic and paste it over another part.

There are many other programs, which can do much more. After that, it's just a matter of practice and play, until you have what you want.

You could try GIMP, which is much like Photoshop, but totally free (and available for multiple operating systems). I've used the clone stamp, eraser and fill tools to remove clutter and polish the backgrounds of our photos quite often. There's a bit of a learning curve, but there are lots of great tutorials for GIMP out there and it's well worth putting some time into if you want to be able to spruce up your pictures.

thank you i do have gimp just not good at it yet i will look deeper into it and look for the tutorials. thank you

Here's an easy one on removing the background.

Here's one
on using the clone tool.

If you post the image here, we could probably tell you what tool(s) you should use to clean it up.

I second the GIMP recommendation.

At the risk of stating the obvious, play with a copy of the original file. Then, when you figure out what you're doing, you'll still have the original to fix.

If you don't mind spending a little bit of money Paintshop Pro is a great program for photo manipulation.

I'm playing with GIMP now and got it to work for the clone feature. now I'm playing some more to see what i can do with it to improve my limited skills.

I like Gimp because its free and I figure why spend money when I'm never going to use a program to make money.

Fair enough. I never got to grips with Gimp, but I am generally in favour of free software if it will do the job. I like to play around with graphics a bit and I have to say I am impressed by the power of software that you can get for the price of a few hours of work in a "First World" economy.
