How do other AHers perceive us?

I've wanted to post this thread for a while, but couldn't figure out how to do it without sounding impossibly needy. I'm really not impossibly needy, just impossibly curious. So it came to me that I'd just lay it out like this and let the chips fall where they may. (I think there's a thread somewhere about using cliches...)

Anyway, about a week and a half ago there was a thread that asked how we thought we were perceived on AH. Writing my response made me realize that my main reaction was that I didn't know. As I watched the 9(!) pages fill up, and saw some people respond, in turn, with their own perceptions of a poster, I was hoping some folks would address my puzzles about me, but no luck. Today I went back to that thread and gathered some stats. Out of the 9 (!) pages, 16 people got replies of others' impressions of them. (I ignored back and forths about the comparative qualities of duck and chicken eggs, etc.) One thing that stood out is that Erozetta was responsible for at least half, probably more, of the impressions-of-impressions. And she obviously took it seriously because she bothered to explain why she wasn't responding to other posters (didn't know them well enough.) Thanks, Erozetta!!

So this thread is for anyone who would like to know how others perceive them.

I propose that each person who is interested in joining post a reply saying something simple, like "I'm in." or "I'll join." or "Let me know." People want to respond should be sure to use the Reply option, so that it's clear whom they're addressing.

Let me know!
Your impressions don't have to be good. I have had one or two (three or four???) people tell me their impressions of me, and one noted that I tended to be abrasive. Since that was embedded in a friendly communication, it made me feel good just to be understood. I'd be interested to know, even, that you haven't noticed me.

If you want to dig in deeper, here are my two posts about how I think AH perceives me. One, two.

I don't know who told you you were abrasive, but that seems like complete bollocks to me. There are rare moments when you can be blunt, but that's about it.

I mostly see you as very inquisitive, sometimes even about some basic things. Your curiosity is your most prominent trait. You're like Alice in Wonderland here. ;)

You also seem quite honest to me, with just a bit of social ineptness.

If I'm being candid, most of you blur together as AH-ers who are pleasant & creative.

That's how I see you in fact; I rely on recognizable names and avatars to sort of keep people straight and neither your name or avatar stand out to me.

Also, really, most of the people I remember on this forum are the ones I find mildly annoying or annoying (you are neither).

Additionally, I tend to be more interested in female(?) posters for all the right and wrong reasons.

And sure, "I'm in".

I remember you most vividly because of your old avatar. It rang bells for me. And I've been meaning to ask you how you picked your new one. It too, has a resonance for me, but maybe it needed the old one in my head first.

I haven't seen many of your posts, but whenever you do post I look to see if my impressions firm up.

I thought that at one point until I read her bio which explained a lot
How did it explain? I've mentioned once or twice that my daughter has asked me if I think I'm "on the spectrum." My reply was, "I dunno."

Well, I'd hope they see me as a decent sort of guy who says out the squabbles and other sorts of forum drama. Hopefully a decent writer as well.

I don't have a strong impression of you, but "decent" seems to fit. I'll pay more attention.

At one point I thought that English wasn't your first language due to some speech patterns that came across as awkward. At least, until, I discovered that you were the same age as my grandmother and then they didn't seem that out of place.

Oh, and thanks for making me think of my grandmother now every time I read one of your stories.

Thanks!
My old avatar went away for some reason and I just used my old default one, which is a scene from "The Perils Of Gwendoline", a softcore femdom-oriented Indiana Jones ripoff from the 80's and starring Tawny Kitaen.

On an related note, I'm shocked by the # of users on here who state that English isn't their first language and yet their English is better than mine. So thank you to all of you who make me feel inadequate.

And I had to use spellcheck on the word inadequate in the previous sentence.

Well, people should know that I'm a calico kitty handling a laptop in steel plate armor. My real name is "Spots." Meow.

Let me know!
I think you have a clear purpose for coming to the AH, and a strong preference for what you like in your writing and that of others. Finding a story that aligns with your ideal "simple erotica" makes you very happy, and you can become frustrated in your attempts to explain over and over again what you mean - perhaps even to yourself.

I also get the impression that you view the usual chaotic antics that go on here with amused tolerance.

Was a duplicate thread under your ID really necessary?
It's not a duplicate. The first thread asks posters how they feel they are perceived. This thread is about asking people to put down their perceptions of others. It's a more interesting, honest premise, because the first thread was basically just a string of people saying "I am the weird truth-telling outsider," which is more about self-perception than an honest attempt to suss out how other people feel about you.

Nice of you to explain, despite it being pretty clearly laid out in the original post.
