How come none of my stories fit into a specific category?

I just submitted my fourth story. I sat there looking at the selection of categories for at least five minutes trying to figure out which one to fit it in. I've had the exact same problem with all of my stories. Any thoughts on new categories or maybe renaming the old ones (Loving Wives, for example - many people get confused by that one)? Anybody else run into this issue?

Can you give us an example? Which cats were you considering and why?

I've had a similar issue, although I suspect it's not quite the same. I write a lot of lesbian stories and I always want to be able to break them up by catagory. Like Romance or fetish, etc. But because the sex in the stories is between two women, the stories have to go in Lesbian. Or do they? Any ideas anyone?

Yea should be a cheating bitches cat  ... It's an old prob horde, best pick one that seems about right and let site admin decide, 5 times out of ten they'll put it in a cat that you didn't want anyway regardless of your requested one.

Hello,

It does seem that Loving Wives could stand to have the cuckold stories branched out from it and still have both be viable, but that's a topic that has been brought up here before, I believe.

What I've done when I have been in doubt is to mention right on top before the story begins that while I've submitted the story in one category, it also has elements of another category in it.

It might be a good idea to look at the volume of stories in each potential category and try to find a place where your stories will get the most reads, which I assume is your intention. As long as readers don't get totally misled, they-'re usually pretty understanding. Good luck.

The site will place the story, sometimes, as Pops says.

Categories are really very personal. I dislike any category system, especially when you have to look something up. They really only make sense to the mind which invented them. Layered categories are the worst. That's why the Dewey system was so screwy. In libraries, you know. Took months with the system to really foretell where things would be stored. And they were physical objects, books. There was cross-referencing in the cards, but in the bookshelves, the book was in just one place.

Categories always sound like a good idea, but really, nobody places things the same way. Each placing in a cat is an association of ideas, and there's little which is more personal and individual than associations.

Category systems create platypus items, too, ones which cross lines. The lines, the definitions, are the artificial thing, not the platypus. It's just an animal, born than way (or hatched, I guess). It didn't have any idea it would run afoul of a category system.

I prefer the asstr flags... only describing the action... MF, MFF, MM, INC... etc.

So I'm a category-less writer... I don't sit down and say "I'm going to write a Loving Wife story". I write a story and after that it's easier to say "Here's what's in it" rather than "this is what it's about".

Sincerely,
ElSol

Indeed. I've read many a story I wouldn't have and didn't like here because Lit doesn't have those flags.

Exactly... I prefer to give people the op-out option rather than hit them with a caca scene midway through that they weren't expecting.

This is meant to be fun.

Sincerely,
ElSol

Loving Wives

It's a bit of a minefield. I ended up with a cuckold story in Loving Wives and thought I was going to have to move to an air raid shelter! Boy, was there some fall out!! It dented my confidence for a little while.
Still, fuck 'em.
Not much help to the original point of this thread I know. Perhaps you could let the Lit admin decide, as was suggested earlier?
