How can you tell if a cold is something more than just a cold?

Like, say, the flu, or strep throat?

Sunday I developed a cold. I felt like crap yesterday, but went to work anyway. I thought I'd feel better today, with some rest and some chicken soup. Instead I feel worse- Really bad sore throat, swollen glands, stuffy nose, gross cough and body aches... anyone out there know what the deal is?

Having just gotten over bronchitis...I'd suggest to go have yourself looked at. I waited too long and was sick for a month.

It sounds like you need a good antibiotic. Gee, I wish you were feeling better.

Swollen glands and "gross cough" may indicate an infection. Dicolored mucus would definitely warrant a trip to the doc.

Have you been eating your apple a day, minx?

hugs and feel better :)

i cant resist medical questions! there is a good probability that you have either strep throat or the flu. strep throat will respond well to antiobiotics such as penicillin based medications...the flu however just takes time.

i would reccomemmend sudafed 60mg q 4-6 hours and motrin400mg q 4hours(take with food)

if you have a cough robitussin or the like is ok but your doc can give you a script for codiene elixir or hycodan syrup these are narcotic based so no driving around town in the porsche!

you probably got it from on of the kids at school!:p

now stick out your tongue and say aaaaaaaaaaaa:p

A cold means you're still alive! If you wake up in an ambulance, you've got something worse. Seriously, take some mega-C, take it easy. They don't call it "the cold & flu season" for nothing. Relax and let your body fight it. Your immune system will be alot stronger in the end, while others fall around you!:D

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I just took 2000 mgs of Vitamin C and Sudafed Cold and Sinus stuff (why the hell do they make them the size of horse pills when you can barely swallow water?! And you have to take two- ugh!)

I can't afford to take the day off of work, and my doctor isn't open when I get out, so I guess if I don't feel better by Friday, I'll make an appt with him.

Christophe, you're right- I probably caughtit from one of the little buggers. The windows in our classroom don't open and there is poor air circulation, so germs are flying everywhere. It's terrible...
