How can you leave a message for someone?

How can you leave someone a message, or see if they left you one

Click on their name and choose 'Start Conversation'. (If I am reading your question correctly.) Also, there is, near the top of the page, an icon for an envelope for Conversations; that is where you would see any messages for you.
