How can I get exposure and votes?

Hi. I have several stories on literotica, and seem to be improving as time goes by, mainly due to taking note of feedback comments (when they're constructive and not personal!! )

I have been getting ok, scores but would like to know how to really get up there. I've managed 4.77 tops, but would love to reach 4.80, and hopefully beyond.

Does anyone have any tips for this, apart from the obvious 'write a good story' angle. Once my work leaves the 'new stories' section, after a day or two usually, then I don't seem to get many more hits.

Suggestions and advice welcome.
happy writing.

advice titbit number one -don't put your email address out on a bulletin board like this *grins* you'll get spammed to all eternity. Just ask people to send you a PM (Private message) which you can receive Email notification of :)

Otherwise I think you just have to keep writing. Possibly get someone in to read over your work and help you edit, I know that the input of several cool people over here of the AH has brought some of my grammar problems to light and now i know they're there I can work on getting rid of'em :)

Write, write and write some more is my only advice...oh and don't get too hung up on scores :) Go with the feedback of people you respect and you can't go wrong :)

Hi, there and welcome to the AH.

If you're going to be active on the message boards, I would recommend creating a signature that includes a link to your member page or a specific story/poem you feel needs attention. That helps people find your stuff.

Next, the Story Feedback forum is a good place to start. When you want more in depth critique, hit the Story Discussion Circle -- where you first have to give a few critiques before you'll be eligible for the week-long super fuck.

Here in the AH, you can post to the "Plug Your Own Story" or "Read, vote, and feedback ..." threads. In most cases, if you are willing to reciprocate with honest feedback, you'll get some takers.

HTH,

English Lady and Impressive have made some sound suggestions which I endorse, especially the fact about getting too hung up on scores. A score of 4.77 is nothing to be ashamed of and to my mind the message that sends back to you is the same as getting 4.80. It means your writing was well received and hit all the right buttons. Be happy, be damn proud of your achievement.

In terms of getting exposure, other than what has already been suggested, I'd say try entering the theme contests, i.e. Earth Day, Nude Day, Halloween, Winter Contest and Valentine's Day. Your story gets the benefit of being on the New Pages as well as the contest thread which is usually up for about three weeks or so. It's been my experience and from what I've read here, the experience of many other authors, that they get far more views and votes on contest submissions and the spin off from that is, if someone likes your story, they immediately search out more of your work, which means you invariably get votes and comments on older work too.

One of the other things I do, and which I think has earned me readers and ongoing support is that I always acknowledge and reply to feedback. It's a funny thing but it does seem to develop loyalty amongst readers and they actually look out for your work. Finally, I've also branched out into various categories. Whether this helps with getting more exposure has been debated on the forums, but in my case I have found that it has.

Good luck with your endeavours,

Your best bet is to keep writing.

The more you write, the more people read your stuff. Then they talk about it to their friends and they'll read it.

My stories views have been increasing steadily. The voting usually stabilises around a certain point depending on the category.

But my feedback has been growing very nicely. That's what I like the most.

So write, that's what we writers do.

Time. Writing quality material, and having it out there over time, is really the best exposure you can get.

Enter some of the seasonal contests, those stories get greater exposure. And winning one will put your nme on hte home page for a while.

The best advice is don't worry about votes. It's simply not something you can control. If you did manage to get a 4.80 and hit the top list, odds are good a Troll will one bomb it, that's just the way it works.

So write, post, enter contests, join the SDC, post on the story feedback forum. All will increse your exposure at lit and help you grow a readership in less time.

As Colly has pointed out, if you want good ratings, avoid trolls. If you figure out how to do this last, kindly PM me!

Staying a bit below 4.8 helps. :D Every time I ease up above 4.8, I get bombed.

It's okay! Don't cry! The best stories on the site aren't always the top-rated ones (or at least not the top-rated for long). The one bombs mean you're doing it better than they are. ;)

Or at least that's what I tell myself... *quiet weeping*

Thank you, vella. Tears of a clown and all that. I understand. But why does this hanky have leg holes?
