How Backwards is Texas? : Death Penalty Revisited for the Millionth Time

You can be funny! lol.

Got to go practice my Chinese. Someone is demanding attention or elsewise I'd have an opinion on the subject.

I still owe manu an answer and it is coming. Hpoefully tonight after class I will have a few minutes to myself.

yi er san sui wu leo chi ba gio shu...

ps saw this morning that SUpreme Court may once again re-consider death penalty, got to go put in braids...

Well, you know my feeling on the death penalty. I doubt that anyone capable of committing a capital crime weighs beforehand in their head whether they are going to get the death penalty 18 years later after endless appeals and costing the state 6 times the amount of a life sentence. It's too clinical now. Like going to sleep before an operation and never waking up.

Why the defense didn't strike the Daughter of the Confederacy?

i feel very strongly about the death sentence and its even worse when its for an under 18 ... when will america reform the death penalty and infact get rid of it ... america is meant to be the leader of the modern world yet there in the stone age on this issue

Well, don't know much about Texas politics. Don't care.
Don't care for the death penalty. If you all remember, I argued against executing McVey.

My last posting about race and the death penalty involved Oklahoma, Affirmative Action, and one Ms. Gilchrist...

I think we could do away with it. We do however need to tell the rest of the world to shut the fuck up until they have solved all of thier own problems.

Oh beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain...

McVeigh & death

The McVeigh case perfectly illustrated certain reasons why the death penalty is so damned stupid. While it didn't address the questions of racism or erroneous judgement (he was white and very guilty, a poster child for the practice), the fact that he PREFERRED death to life in prison without parole should tell us a lot about the deterrence argument. And the fact that we killed the person best qualified to tell us (eventually) who helped him was a serious miscarriage of justice. The state pulled a Jack Ruby in this case! McVeigh's deep yearning for attention would have compelled him to let it ALL out....

As for the prison industry that now has appeared in about 10% of all of America's rural counties, bringing jobs and bad vibes with it, the death penalty just deprives these poor guards and cooks of breathing bodies to guard. Life w/out parole would be a jobs program that should warm the hearts of conservatives.

But Lavy, I must note that I have personally vowed not to post news stories or articles, so I'm embarrassed to second your post. On the other hand, I did respond to one by Markov, so maybe I'll try it again sometime myself. It's a new day, except for that kid in Texas....

but thats the problem you do tell the world to "shut the f**k up" and you tell the world to do alot of other things too ... and yet your sentencing 17 year old's to death ... its double standards and amnesty is right to go after america for it and about some of the problems you have with SOME of your justice system

i believe america should be the leader of the world in every area while there leading the world in other ways ... thats why i am hard on some of you about americans policys :)

I find it amusing that you feel as if other countries should stay out of America's business while all the while we continue to go to other countries and force them to view the world according to our own morals.

Have you seen what our 17 year-olds do to each other?
In one year more, they get to vote.

And believe me, I'm a closet isolationist because increasingly the world is telling us to get the fuck out, so I'm all for it!

Let the games begin!

Yeeha!
