I think I've sort of 'figured out' my attraction to certain individuals. I think I'm not attracted to them, I'm attracted to their aesthetic perfection, the same way I'm attracted to a beautiful painting or sculpture. I'd rather not speak to them, just stare at them and..admire. Peh, won't go on about it no longer.

I do know exactly what you are saying, and agree, to a certain extent.

But, in my life, those I've found most attractive are those that I have got to know, on a much deeper level; it's the entire package.

The sexiest and most attractive man I know once described himself to me in very derogatory way. I didn't agree with him, at all, but I will admit that he's no Brad Pitt. No, he's much better than that - he's a real man.

Mind you, Brad Pitt in Troy PHWOAR. What a body.

In my novel, I have an inordinately attractive male character who sleeps around because he is depressed by the way people treat him--as a beautiful object. Those around him can only see that he is amazingly beautiful and can't see that he's more than that. They treat him as sex object, he treats them as sex object.
Course, that's just a minor plotline (he's my main character's step-brother) but I tried to inch out some of my beliefs about beauty etc. into my story. I've never delved into the mind of a beautiful man before, but I hypothesised that this would be how some of them at least would feel.

Very true about his body! :D

I think that's very insightful of you. Sounds like an interesting character, with many depths. Because, afterall, haven't we all?

:D Thanks.

When I write characters, I try to 'Gollum'-ise as many as possible--not exactly the split personality thing, but to give them as many different sides and interpretations. I think it makes them more interesting. I do have a few characters with split personalities (the murderers mainly). The most fun when writing the story is inventing the cool characters. I think the problem is, as an author, is that you try and put yourself in the character too much, personalise it to you. You don't like giving the character traits that you yourself do not wish to possess (it took me a long time to give my main character major insecurity--because I'm not insecure and I don't relate too well with insecure poeple). However, making characters different to yourself or the self you wish to be inevitably makes them more interesting, especially if you write many different characters--if you make the female protagonists yourself all the time then it gets a bit 'read one, read 'em all'

It sounds to me like characterization is your strong point, and that's always my favourite kind of writing to read.

I much prefer stories that are character driven, rather than plot driven. I try to write that way myself, not alway successfully.

Have you got any stories here at Lit yet?

Lou

No, I haven't get any stories on lit yet. I'm about half-way through one which I'll submit called 'Lelia's Palazzo'--renaissance romance. It's 10,000 words so far. Probably end up around 20,000. I should finish it in a week or two, so maybe then!

Plastic surgery? Sufficient unto the day, etc., etc. There are some operations I wouldn't mind having now, if I could afford them, but I can't. And while there are some things that are getting cheaper all the time, anything medical isn't going to be one of them.
