Me I always stand in the shower or tub. I am too big to comfortably lay in a normal size tub. Sometimes I do it while the shower is on and other times when it is off. I always get water proof clippers for this reason. But I get a weird enjoyment after trimming with the water off watching all the loose hairs flow to the drain when I turn the water on.

She lies on the bed on a towel and first uses an electric razor (which looks like a disposable) to catch the long hairs. Then she uses a one-inch round, close electric shaver to remove the stubble. After she's done getting as much as she can, I move in and take over to complete the job with those shavers, spreading her open, for the hairs she couldn't see and missed.

I've gotten used to just using a disposable razor to "dry shave" my cock and balls. Once a guy gets used to it, it's painless, quick, and easy.

My wife uses an electric razor which is shaped like a disposable razor and runs on one AA battery to shave the long hairs.
