Looked like the Democratic National Convention to me. They should have dropped some balloons or something to make it a little more festive.:D

Best exploitation of the dead yet!....

But damn the opposition if they try to campaign before voting day! :D

LOL:D That would be disrespectful.

Wellstone was admired by everyone in Congress for having what all of them should have - integrity. I didn't like his politics, but the man stuck to his guns and had more balls then the rest of the Senate combined. He's probably spinning in his grave over the dog and pony show they called a Memorial Service. It was disrespectfu as hell, and I feel sorry for his family.

Redpimple and donkeydicksucker will probably say the extra activities were necessary to flush out the CIA hitmen.

The Democrats are NOT the party of gracious people. We see that in elections and in the looting of the White House. The snubs against the Republicans are indicative that men like Wellstone are the extreme minority in the party. This was directed by one James Carville and the Son of Wellstone. You DO NOT say no to the Vice-President of the United States attending a family funeral. Simply pathetic. The next time Democrats scream about bi-partisanship, remember, if there's none in death, then there's none in life...

Keeps reminding me of the months before jumping Jim Jeffords took the will of the poeple into his own hands how Dashle kept calling for POWER SHARING, it's too close, you can't lock us out, you're being VERY MEAN-SPIRITE. But as soon as Jeffords jumped, with such a slight change in power, Dashle inposed rules ike, If this legislation cannot pass a pre-vote that is overwhelming, we won't vote on it. Not one word about power-sharing. Instead you get Hillary taking up the REDWAVE mantra, Bush was selected, not elected... Pathetic People. Pathetic.

I liked Wellstone. The man not his politics. He was one of the last of the old line liberals in the vein of HHH.

He caused no end of trouble for the Democrats in the senate as he was as likely to vote his conscience and against the party line as not.

He was generally a soft spoken man, not given to grandstanding and public displays.

The Democrats turned his service into a media circus. Disrespecting a good and true man, and showing themselves as the political hacks that they in the process.

Please.....the Democratic politicians were disrespectful.....just because I'm a registered Dem doesn't mean I can't see opportunists when they make themselves obvious.

But what does it say about YOU to be under leadership LIKE that?

We ARE known by the company we keep.

If I were you, I'd think of where my BEST interests lie.

It's like the Charles Barkley story. His mom tells him stop being a Republican because they're for the rich. He tell's her, MOM, I AM RICH. Not only that, but those people haven't improved our [African-American] lives one bit, so why keep voting for them...?

I bet they even had booze.

How else you gonna get the Camelot Crowd to show up?

Do you ever get the idea that they are becoming more of a carnival side show than a political party?

That would make a good thread Bro. "Match the Democrat to a "Carny" character."

Carville Tied to Wellstone Family's Cheney Snub

The presence of Bill and Hillary Clinton loomed large at Tuesday night's University of Minnesota memorial service for the late Sen. Paul Wellstone, leading some to question whether the family's decision to disinvite Vice President Dick Cheney was tied to the former first couple's reported efforts to "humiliate" President Bush.

In fact, Clinton operative James Carville may have played a key role in the Cheney snub by characterizing relatively innocuous comments made by ex-Speaker Newt Gingrich on Sunday as an "attack" on Wellstone's successor, Walter Mondale.

"Wellstone's two adult sons, Mark and David, are upset with what they believe are Republican efforts to focus on the politics of the race before the family and friends have had time to grieve," Democratic sources told CNN when asked about the Cheney rebuff. "These sources cited former House Speaker Newt Gingrich's comments over the weekend assessing Vice President Walter Mondale as candidate."

However, it's hard to see how Gingrich's remarks, delivered during an appearance with Carville on NBC's "Meet the Press," could be construed as offensive - at least before the Clinton operative mischaracterized the comments as "an attack."

"Look, the Democrats legitimately will try to ensure that nobody thinks about who Walter Mondale is or what he stands for, and that it's an emotional campaign," Gingrich said.

"Walter Mondale ... chaired a commission that was for the privatization of Social Security worldwide. He chaired a commission that was for raising the retirement age dramatically. He has a strong record of voting to raise taxes."

Gingrich continued:

"If you want to raise your retirement age dramatically and privatize Social Security - Walter Mondale's a terrifically courageous guy to say that - and if you want a big-tax-increase person with a long history of raising taxes, Walter Mondale's a perfect [candidate] - but this is a six-year seat ... and people ought to vote over how they'll vote, not the emotions of this week."

Carville immediate pounced on Gingrich's words, complaining, "I think that [the people of Minnesota] are horrified that Senator Wellstone's memory has not even been paid respect to before the kind of attacks that you hear now out of Minnesota and right here on 'Meet the Press' against Senator Mondale, who is probably one of the great distinguished Americans in the last 50 years."

Even Gingrich, who delivered the so-called attack, said he had no idea what the Clinton operative was talking about.

"Why is it an attack to state publicly somebody's public positions that they have taken?" the ex-Speaker complained. "Now, that wasn't an attack on Walter Mondale."

By Tuesday, however, the Wellstone family had apparently adopted the Carville line, citing Gingrich's comments as the reason for the Cheney snub.

On Sunday, Newsweek political reporter Howard Fineman revealed that Hillary Clinton had challenged the legitimacy of the Bush-Cheney election at a California fund raiser.

Fineman observed on "The Chris Matthews Show": "What the Clintons want - they want back in the action. They want credit for the, quote, Clinton years, and they want to humiliate the Bush family if they can."

I was going to run naked through this thread and say hi, b1....but it is a funeral thread.

I'll just say hi while fully clothed.:D

It's a Democratic funeral thread.

As always, clothing is optional...

Skanty is best. They have GREAT imaginations!

Just a snippet from:

http://www.startribune.com/stories/1752/3398117.html

A speech by Rick Kahn, one of Wellstone's closest friends, shifted the tone of the event from memorial service to full-throated, foot-stomping, fist-pumping political rally.

He urged the crowd to "stand up for all the people he fought for . . . for working men and women . . . for all those who lack the strength to stand up on their own." His words brought thousands to their feet.

TV cameras then panned to a beaming Walter Mondale, Wellstone's likely replacement in the U.S. Senate race, which brought more cheers.

Oh, don't worry, sweetheart, I'm here.

Why do you think they lead me? I pick the lesser of two evils for the most part when I vote....I choose the candidate with the record and stand on issues that goes best with my values. I don't look at their personal character flaws. We all have them.

Why do you think Republicans are immune to character flaws? Didn't Watergate, Iran Contra and Noriega teach you anything?

I'm with Colonel North on that one...

I will not vote Democrat period because I HAVE learned about character.

If Bill Clinton is at the top of the Totem, I'm looking for a new tribe!

Treffinger, the (former) Republican Senatorial candidate from Rhode Island has been arrested on charges of mail fraud, witness tampering, conspiracy, extortion and false statement.

Then there's Sherry Schultz, McCallum's former chief of staff charged with misconduct in improper fund raising for the Republicans.

Now in Rikers Island there is an investigation into the Improper use of corrections officers to work for Republican compaigns.

I'm sure you can come up with Democratic examples as well.

My point being lack of character will always exist on both sides as long as both sides are human.

Good character also exists on both sides. George Mitchell quickly comes to mind.

Oh man...I should not even wade into this!

but I will! LOL!

I was horribly sickened when I woke up this morning and heard about that sideshow. And to dis the Vice President! Sheesh. Well, if Billary was (were) involved, what else should we expect.

Politically, I have voted for Dems before, but they have been few and far between. I tell people that I'm so conservative that I make Rush Limbaugh look liberal! LOL! No...I'm not a Republican...I'm just a conservative. I vote for whomever I deem to be the best choice for the job. In fact, I voted for a Dem for senator last time, and I will vote for him again this year.

OK....getting down off the soapbox now.

I didn't watch the whole thing, saw a little snippet of it on the telly this morning. It didn't look like a memorial service to me, more like a convention. Quite an embarrassment, I think. Tasteless...
