Yea, I grew up around the coast that's one thing I miss here...I'm pretty sure I'll be making trips down there whenever possible.

's Auntie

How's the goosling? Give her a  for me too.

The gosling is currently finishing dinner (she cooks a fantastic cheese/ham omelette - I'm never cooking them again, no comparison), I'll be happy to pass on the kiss. ;)

I'm jealous! I've never been able to make a decent omelette.

I'll make one for you...but you have to stay overnight to get it.... ;)

I came up in Houston, myself, and cannot think of a single thing to add to what the others have said. The Houston Chronicle, BTW, has one of the largest and most varied comic sections in the country, second only to the on-line Washington Post.

I would suggest

a Key Map. I lived there 8 1/2 years and one of the first things I invested in was a Harris County Key Map. It proved to be one of my best investments. It also helps to have someone riding along who can read a map.

Well, right now going to school in Missouri but I'm from Bangladesh.
Bangladesh! In that case, Elf, it'll feel like you're back home, except the natives will sound funny and eat odd foods. :)

There was a thread very similar to this quite recently on the GB:

There are many positive things about Houston. It is a terrific place, despite its quirks.

It is a extremely cosmopolitan city. It is also a huge center for all the arts. There is something for everyone.

We have a fairly active group of Litsters here that are friendly folk who get together for impromptu meals at restaurants or some of our homes. Consider using them as a resource.

If you're south of the city, I would suggest checking out the boardwalk at Keemah on a weekend and also Moody Gardens. Both are lots of fun.

What BWC said about the Key Map. Definitely. It is impossible to get about in Houston without one.

When did Kemah get a boardwalk? Last time I was there, it had some nice seafood restaurants, a marina, and a pylon that contained a huge, misshapen condominium complex for feral parrots.

Hubby has gone to Dallas, Houston, Austin Texas for work. The only one he boasts about is Austin and how much he would love to move there!

Guess what, he is talking to the boss this week about green cards!

I hope he makes good money... Austin is an expensive place to live....

And the IMAX is one of those fancy ones where they show 3D movies, with 3D specs and all. Not all the IMAXes do, you know...

well well, do tell <grin

I live 92 miles north of Houston
all of these suggestions are great,
museum, galveston or freeport, san antonio, NASA, the galleria mall, reliant stadium and Huntsville texas, riddled in Texas history. Be sure your vehicle has air-conditioning <grin and since you like Art, there are many small gallerys just south west of downtown near Rice University. If you like the great outdoors, ride the Guadeloupe river in a raft at San Marcus.

My brother lives in Houston so if you get in a pickle let me know... <grin

I think I'm going to print out this entire thread and keep it for reference. It has great advice. I'll be sure to let you all know when I get there and tell ya how I like it.
