Has anyone ever done the hot wax on anyone or had it done. My love has had it and he said it was extremely painful and he has scars from it. First time he saw candles in my bedroom it made him nervous.

Im curious to what the best type of wax to use and how to enjoy it without scarring. I have read using birthday candles are good because the heat is less than a normal candle.

I saw a movie with MaDonna years ago and she used candles on the guy and i was so turned on i have been curious about it every since.

Wax play, when done correctly, should not result in burns, and certainly not scars. OK, maybe light first degree burns (like a sunburn that fades within a day or so), but avoiding more serious burns is exactly why you need to know what you're doing before even considering dripping wax on yourself or someone else!

There are tons of threads here (mostly in BDSM Talk) and tutorials elsewhere on engaging in safe wax play. If you want to dabble, try a soy candle (you can actually rub in the "wax", like a massage oil) or one of those religious candles in glass you see in the ethnic food section of most stores (you can actually melt those to a suitable temp in a crockpot of water). White, unscented wax is what you should start with - additives like colors and scents can increase the temp, although I've never had a problem with the red religious candles or scented soy candles. Never, ever use a candle that has glitter or anything in it.

The inside of your forearm is a good place to test the wax initially - you want somewhere that's hairless, fairly sensitive and easy to treat if you screw up. At first, you want to drip/pour it from a good height (let's say 2 feet). Well, little drips first, then a little pour if the temp is OK. If it is, you can experiment bring it a little closer, step by step, until you find your threshold. That threshold will vary on different areas of the body, but the point is that you need to test each candle so you won't cause burns anywhere. Once you figure out the height you prefer, you might want to mark the candle with that.

I love wax play! I'm usually the one under the wax but I have been the dripper too. Wax has always held a facination for me; as a kid I used to drip it on my hands when my mum wasn't looking (got in on the carpet too once, that was hard to explain). I feel sorry for your SO though as wax play done right should never scar (or burn if your not into that kinda thing).

The best waxes to use are parrafin or soy. The shape of the candle also matters; stay away from tapered or tealight candles for wax play and stick to pillar or candles in containers. I haven't heard about using birthday candles but as there is nowhere for the wax to pool and cool on them I'd expect they'd still be hotter than a pillar candle. Also, plain candles are recommended as the different colours on a candle can melt at different temps and lead to burns (another reason I'm that makes me feel uneasy about birthday candles.

Once you've got your candle, test some drops on your wrist first, like you would with a babies bottle, before unleashing it on you partner. If it burns you, don't use it on anyone else! Start high first as the further the wax falls the cooler it will be. Check with your partner to see if it feels ok before moving lower. Communication is essential while getting to know your partner's tolerance for heat. Listen to them and adjust what you're doing accordingly.

Here's some great links for more info about wax play:

Good luck and enjoy yourselves. Hopefully all goes well and the overwhelming feedback is "more please"!

Thank you both! My love was introduced to wax unwillingly. The woman tied him to the bed and pored it on him. He is a very hairy man and he has a few small scars on his chest. Im the one who wants to have it dripped on. hehe I too use to play in hot wax when I was a kid. I cought my bedroom on fire playing with a candle and the wax,.lol Luckly it just got the bottom of my curtain and my screams got my dads attention.

Where would you say is the best place on a woman to have it dripped on? stomach? breast? nipples?

I have used white candle wax on hubby, it does turn red but doesn't leave scars. More like a sunburn in spots. ;) We found it is messy and hard to clean off the body.
I recently went to a Slumber Party party. I bought a candle that will not leave the redness as a regular candle. It doesn't clump like the regular candle, it turns to a massage oil and stays warm. I haven't tried it on hubby yet but plan to soon. :D

What kind of candle is it that you use? And where might we find this?? :D

If someone got burned in wax play, it was because the person doing it either was fucking incompetent, or was a serious psycho......seriously, if done right there is little chance of serious burns. First of all, the higher you drop it from the less it is going to burn, since it cools off as it drops pretty quickly. Part of the fun in wax play is varying that, starting high and then moving closer, going close then high, etc. Allowing a candle to burn down and creating a large pool and pouring it out at once was the ptoblem there, you don't do that, you drip it, a little at a time, it is sensation play, not plucking a chicken......

I have had it done all over my body, and other then places where you have cuts or sores, or obvious things like the eyes (gee, whiz, that takes a lot to imagine!), it works on the genitals, on the nipples, on most parts of the body (basically keep it below the head). It can be fun building up the wax, then using a knife to scrape it off (doesn't need to be sharp, it is the image that counts, dull blade will work fine, and especially with a guy around the family jewels, well, adds to the excitement, but dull there is better).

One big no no, NO beeswax! Those burn really hot and are not suitable, plain old parafin candles work well, have used even tea lights, the tall 7 day kind (which has the added attraction you can use it quite a few times), square candles , round ball candles, and they all worked great. Colors don't matter (though black of course is cool for the effect), just don't get ones with glitter and crap in it.

One trick for cleanup, besides having a drop cloth on the bed, Using baby oil or olive oil on the subjects skin first can make cleanup easier and despite a myth I have heard, doesn't make it more likely to get burned or anything, just means cleaning up will be easier:).

They're just soy wax-based candles. Someone gave us a regular soy candle as a gift, and after reading they were good for play and low temp, we gave it a shot.

You can even make your own "massage candles", which would allow you to customize the ingredients and any fragrances. I made massage bars with gender-neutral scents one year for holiday gifts, and they're fantastic for, well, massage, but also moisturizing the hands, feet, elbows and even legs after shaving. The up-front cost of making your own stuff is higher, but if you make some for yourself and also for gifts, they come out way cheaper per unit than things that are marketed for couples or as specialized beauty products.

Google soy lotion candles. I bought mine at Walgreens at least a year or so ago. I don't know that they still carry them, but the brand name was "Essence of Beauty". Good luck.

The white candles are just the regular tapered candles. The new one I bought is from Slumber Party. You should be able to search and find it online. There are sex toys and other items on there also.
