Hot Hobbies...

This isn't a hobby and it's certainly not hot but during a good rain storm I will set up a chair in the garage and just watch it pour. It was something we did as kids and it kinda stuck. The only difference now is that I added beer to the occasion. There's something relaxing and watching and listening to it rain hard, especially when you're dry in the garage.

My most important hobby is music. I'm a keyboard player and band leader in my own modern jazz/funk band, and it's slowly starting to come together. The rush from writing a song alone and hearing others play it is incredible.

Somewhat related: skilled non-pro jazz players are really hard to find, so I drive an hour each way for rehearsal. This isn't exactly a hobby, but driving back from rehearsal near midnight on a Friday night through quiet backroads with the music turned up and the windows rolled down is a great finish to the evening.

Definitely brightens my world! My four-year-old's hugely musical too, thanks to my influence, and he loves a variety of songs and styles.
