I was just wondering if the were any horse lovers, owners, riders, on this BB. It would be nice to chat with someone that has this in common. I would like to hear from anyone who would also like to learn to ride. I"M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE BEASTIALITY THING EITHER... There is another thread for that...

I live in Montana.. It's practically a LAW you like horses and know how to ride. BUT..

And I am dead serious about this..

The girl scouts brainwashed me into an illogical fear of riding horses. Those bitches.

I love horses, Randy. Sadly, though, as much as I've always wanted to, I've never learned to ride a real horse. I can do wonderful things to a man's brain while riding on a carousel though... does that count?

Story time.

Okay, Nursie, you asked for it..

In fifth grade I was sent off to horsemanship camp, run by the Girl Scouts, somewhere outside of Helena I believe. I was a natural and I loved riding; I was always ahead of everyone on the trail rides, I had better control of my horse than anyone. The councellors said that it seemed like I'd been riding for years..

Until my horse threw and trampled me.

I was only bruised a little, but I went into shock and they had me under observation for 24 hours. They said the other girls wouldn't ride again if I didn't get back on my horse for the last trail ride of the camp, and I told them not to sweat it, that I wasn't the least bit afraid-- which was true.

That night I decided to read the Horsemanship Guidelines booklet the Girl Scouts handed out on the first day of the camp that I'd never bothered to look at. It was filled with tidbits like "Don't spook your horse when you're trying to get on, or it will run off with one of your ankles trapped in the stirrup and drag you, bloody and beaten, for the next twenty miles."

The next time I got on a horse I freaked out.. And I freak out to this day. I would have been fine, too, if it weren't for that goddamned booklet. Ignorance IS bliss, y'dig?

That's horrible! What kind of sick mind would write that for little girls to read? (Not you, Endlessly.) That's not a guide, that's a horror story!

horses-minions of evil

Endlessly I too live in a horsie place-and I am terrified of them. Ponies too-evil midget horses I think...I can not even get on a horse,my son had a party with ponies to go to and I almost threw up while watching him get on a one-I was clammy and had an anxiety attack-really bad. OOOPs sorry for the paranoia-I know many people who love horses.

It really saddens me to hear of the bad encounters that you ladies have had with horses. I hear of people having a bad experience once in a while. I can only assume that most of the probems were created and were not the horses fault. I grew up with horses and have never been scared of them. Horses have a very keen sense of the world around them. When you become scared this sense kicks in and they also become scared. One has to think like the horse to understand them. They are not a machine as many believe. They have very sensitive feelings, maybe more than most of us humans do. You have to be their friend to understand what they're feeling. Some of you may have watched the movie "The Horse Whisperer'. I was a very good movie, but did not go into depth of detail on how one can whisper to a horse. It was just a story about a man who could whisper to horses. In my short observations on this beautiful earth I too have experenced many great and exciting things with a horse. My observation is that you may be whispering to a horse, but the horse is screaming at you. "WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT ME TO DO, I DON"T UNDERSTAND,PLEASE ASK ME IN A WAY THAT I CAN UNDERSTAND, PLEASE WOULD YOU BE MY FRIEND!!!" If anyone has a question or would like to hear more please write it in this BB or e-mail me, I would love to help!
