My first thread, I'm a little nervous. Hope some of you have relevant experience for me.

Atypically for me, I'm doing a little pre-writing research here in an effort to make the premise of a future story a little more globally appealing.

Here is my question:

What is the longest existing period of time you have harbored an existing crush or fantasy for a theoretically obtainable non-relation lover, but had it left unfulfilled, and what was the reason for it being left unfulfilled?

Examples:

I'm not looking for:

25 Years - Norma Jean died.
17 years - My Dad would kick my ass if I put the moves on my Mom.

I am looking for:

20 years - He is my best friend's husband.
10 years - I can't bring myself to cheat on my spouse.

Thanks in advance for your thoughtful responses.

Nope never... don't have child like crushes.

Either take them to bed or don't... no in betweens

well there was this girl i met in junior high, back 1990 that I feel in love with and care deeply for but she came from a side of the thracks i knew i could never her give her a life anywhers near what she was used to living, so i never showed my love toward her this last fall i preformed the marriage cermony for her and her husband. its was difficult to do with out breaking down.

How romantic.

Oh - two years. She didn't swing that way.

Do you want me to hold your club while you drag Darryl Hannah to the back of the cave? Or were you just going to stick it in the pocket of your hip wooly mammoth outerwear? :)

I guess this unexpected perspective throws a little monkey wrench into my "global acceptance" program.

Perhaps I'll have to re-evaluate my story premise.

I'm not sure the word "crush" can apply to something an adult feels. I had a crush on a guy when I was a teenager, but I knew it would never go anywhere. He didn't really notice me. <sighs> Thanks for bringing up that lovely bit of embarrassment. LOL.

What's your story premise?

Six or seven months so far. I would like to think it is just distance that prevents us from meeting, but I don't know. Maybe it's better this way.

I recognize that "crush" is vernacular for younger folks. I also put "fantasy", but what I mean was any of those or these: "Have the hots for", "Want to do", whatever is your phraseology of choice.

As for the story premise, I was hoping to keep that under my hat until it posts. I think they read better that way. Part of the awkwardness of the question phrasing was trying not to divulge the premise, yet acquire the info I wanted.

Sorry to be so clandestine in my motives and motions.

Alright, I guess I win this little thing. I've had a "crush" on the same guy for 14 years now.

Met him back in third grade, my very first day in my new school. My teacher let me sit next to him, and I was dumbstruck from then until graduation, and even now. I see him everyonce in a while, when he's home from college, and I can't help but drool. Call me childish or strange if you want to. I just can't help myself.

I mean, I'd never stalk him, but... looking from a distance, and knowing he has a girlfriend is enough for me. I could never trample on anything like that.

Is this where I announce I have a crush on never since when she appeared... and no she dont swing that way either

Ah, Svedish, I've always believed everything should be tried twice. Isn't it best to make certain with these things?

LMAO @ Laurel, so you had a thing for your mum then Laurel? :D

12 months and counting.

I've had a crush on the same guy since 7th grade...I'm 30 now. ...God if I could go back and change anything, it would have been to talk to him then...I will never forget what he did for me, and he'll always be my secret crush...the perfect man.

Thanks for letting me remember... :)

Thanks so much.
That's EXACTLY the kind of thing I'm looking for.

I really appreciate it.
