Not at all. Lip synching is a perfectly respectable form of entertainment, as long as the people doing it don't try to pass the singing off as their own. I remember in my home town in the fifties, one guy who would lip synch to Spike Jones records.

Another form of lip synching has probably been around for as long as there have been movies with sound. An entertainer would pretend to sing and later, the actual singing, either by that person or somebody else, would be dubbed in.
