Homestead and Heart(one on one)

Kat nodded at CY and then was stunned when the image of him naked in the creek ran through her mind. She felt her cheeks redden and she turned to look over the horses. This was the best stock they had corraled in a long time, she knew they had to get them to California in one piece. "Sure, take your time. I will be in the kitch of the mainhouse with the maps I have drawn. You can tell me if they need to be changed."She said softly moving towards the house.

She stopped long enough to look back at him. "Just be careful of Zeke.."She said with a laugh, not telling him Zeke was the mangy dog that hung out around the ranch and looked for any leg to hump or cheek to slobber on. Laughing she entered the house, the door springing shut loudly.

Cy walked toward the creek, brushing the dust off of his clothes and casting the occasional glaring glance at the hot Texas sun. His mind quickly moved back to Kat, and with a groan realized he wanted nothing more than to have her scrub his back. In turn scrubbing hers.

Arriving at the creek, Cy walked up and down it until he found a pool. Stripping quickly, Cy hung his clothes on a low branch of a cotton wood. Placing his boots in the crook of the branch, he made his way into the water. The cool water washed over him taking dirt and sweat with it. Dunking his head, Cy washed his hair out, his mind wandering to what it would be like to wash Kat's hair.

Feeling himself stir at the thought of her, Cy shook his head trying to clear it, getting himself straight for the long drive ahead. Sighing Cy started out of the water and saw an old mangy mutt sniffing around the tree where Cy had left his clothes. The dog hiked its rear leg and let loose with a stream of urine that puddled in the spot where Cy had undressed. Cy muttered, "Guess we know his opinion of me." Then its ears perked up and the dog looked back toward the main part of the ranch and then took off, tail wagging.

Cy got out of the creek and carefully avoiding the dog's present for him, dressed and headed back to the ranch house.

Kat moved about the Kitchen, making coffee and laying out the maps she had used on several other rides. Hoping they would be helpful on this one. She poured 2 cups of coffee setting one down for Cy when he returned. She knew he had to have run into the dog by now. She looked up as her dad walked in and he looked her over from head to toe. he hugged her tightly then proceeded to search for the head wound she had received. "Daddy, stop.Im fine."She said wiggling out of his arms and grinning at him.

"Im tougher than a coon being caught in a fox trap.'She said with a grin as he raised an eyebrow. he soon smiled and poured himself a cup of coffee walking over to look at the maps she had laid out. "You sure about going through the Gully?Flash floods could happen easy this time of year."he said looking up at her.

"Yeah,it will save up about a day of travel and give the herd alot of water and grass to feed on."She said looking down at the map pointing. "Because once we get past Snake river, the grazing is going to be rough, wont be much of it."She added softly looking up when Cy walked into the kitchen. She raised an eyebrow at his mumblings. "Ummm, you okay?"She asked him trying not to laugh.

It was a long walk back to the ranch house carrying his boots. Damn dog pissed all over the top of them and into them slightly. He left the boots hanging upside down on a couple post tops to allow the piss to drain out.

Picking his way gingerly across the yard Cy let himself into the house and headed toward the kitchen to find Kat and her father hunched over a couple maps. "Ummm, you okay?" Kat asked, laughter all but bursting out of the seams with laughter.

"Yeah, great mutt you have there," Cy answered. Looking down at the map, Cy noticed the route she was looking at; nodding he leaned against the table and asked, "My cup of coffee?" Seeing Kat nod, Cy picked it up and took a sip of the thick java.

Looking at the map closely, he said, "Dangerous route. If we beat the floods it pays off in allowing us to take a little less grain with us." Nodding Cy said, "I like it."
