Okay guys, I've been sick (with the flu) for the last few days and I've tried all the store-bought remedies and they're just not working for shit.

Do you guys have any home remedies that might work? Anything to cure the aches and pains and stuffy nose and stuff?

PLEASE! I am begging you (and I don't usually do that outside the bedroom)!

Yarrow Tea: Old Wiccan remedy

Infuse dried yarrow (the flowering heads), in boiling water for about 15 minutes. Bravely drink. It tastes really yucky at first (you can add some honey), but it works.

Blessings,
circe!

ok, for the aches and pains, take two tylenol and one ibuprofen, then climb into the bath, hottest water you can stand.
For the stuffy nose, put your head over a bowl of steaming water, and then cover both your head and the bowl with a towel.
For nausea, lay down, on your stomach, in a cold dark room, no interruptions.
For a fever, take some tylenol, then wrap up in a blanket<after having dressed really warmly>, and turn up the heat. <g> You can actually sweat out a fever.
For a sore throat, make yourself some black tea <yes it has to be black, not black looking, actual black tea. Like the kind you buy from Lipton> , add some lemon and honey and then drink it while it's still hot. The lemon helps to peel all the gunk off your throat walls. The black tea helps take down swelling.
Ahhh yes, and last but not least, some good old fashioned chicken noodle soup. Good for what ails you . <g>

The soup sounds good. Actually, almost any warm, digestible liquid is good; very soothing.

A hot shower or bath might help the achiness.

Other than that, ibuprofen or aspirin, hot tea, and rest.

I've tried 'em all...

...for head congestion, take an aspirin and decongestant...crawl into bed...and moan.

...for stomach cramps, take and asprin and kaopectate...crawl into bed and moan.

...for sneezing and runny nose, take an aspirin and anti-histamine...crawl into bed...and moan.

...for body aches and joint stiffnesss, take an aspirin...crawl into bed and moan.

...for anything else not covered here...take an aspirin...crawl into bed and moan.

Studies have since proven that the only thing that works is moaning...all the rest work like placebos.

Hope you get better soon Red...

Cheers...

Too much honey makes it worse :) But it does work.

Sore throat...gargle with warm salt water...then drink hot tea with lemon and honey
Aches and pains...aspirin, hot shower or bath
For stuffiness...Vicks Vapor rub, under the nose and on the chest...also might want to try an over the counter allergy tablet which contains nn antihistamine..
And, the all time old fashioned cureall, homemade chicken noodle soup

For stuffies take a hot (As hot as you can handle comfortably) bath with powdered menthol/eucalyptus powder. You can get it pretty cheap at any store that sells herbals.
Or if you go to any little store that would sell *Natural Remedies* they have this stuff called Florida Water which esentially is the same thing..to put in your bath.

Ok assuming your able to keep it down, then the spicy food thing does work, I like to order in a curry or something like that and have a beer or two (but not to many) and then get an early night.

Take one lemon add honey and hot water with a generous dollop of gingerbrandy. Take an ibuprofen and a hot bath. Go to bed and sleep. I urge people to be careful with how much tylenol you take and how it is spaced. Just because the drugs are over the counter does not mean they are harmless.

Also be aware that over the counter flu and cold remedies have tylenol in them so do not double dose. Read labels carefully.
