This afternoon I was getting ready to head out to the store. (Not to mention the beach, I wanted to check the beach as well as the diving conditions at my favorite Inland Waterway spot.)

I picked up our one cat Bubba to bring him inside when he jumped. He must have had a spasm of some kind (He has them from time to time.) right under my hand because the next thing I knew he had his teeth sunk into the first knuckle of my thumb. OKay that hurt but nothing to bad.

I cleaned up the wound and off we went shopping.

Now though my thumb is killing me. I can moce it but it hurts. I can use the other fingers of my hand but that causes pressure on my thumb, which hurts. (We're talking I can't put force against my thumb.)

My thumb is slightly swollen at it's base, not bad though.

It just hurts like a son of a gun.

Never a dull moment, eh Cat. :catroar:

It's far to early for an infection to be setting in. Maybe he hit a nerve?

I'd take it to an emergency care facility. (Actually, I'd hide it and whimper until my wife saw it and made me go to an emergency care facility). It easily could be infected.

My grandma got blood poisoning after being bitten by her cat and ended up in the hospital for 3 days.

I got bit that way earlier this year; I syringed the wound with peroxide, kept it from closing up, all the right stuff..
Three days later, my hand looked like a red rubber glove, and I was in the emergency room getting yelled at by the doctor while he pumped me full of antibiotics.

Possibly hit a nerve.

Yep much too early for an infection.

LOLOL

Lord how I know that feeling.

I will be working for the next three days and keeping an eye on this. I also know the M.D.'s making rounds all three days so I'll have them checking it out as well.

You'll be working in a hospital with this? Can we all spell "Staph infections all around"?

Can we say Personal Protective Equipment? (Little things like gloves and handwashing?)

Not to mention this weekend I am working the desk. (Yech, I hate the damned desk.)

One hint about me and my working in a hospital. I go the protocols one further.

In my hospital the protocol is to wash ones hands both before and after coming into contact with a patient. You wear gloves when you think you will be coming into contact with bodily fluids.

With me I wash my hands as per protocol but I also always wear gloves when I am going to be coming into contact with patients. This just makes it safer for both me and my patients. (Many of my patients have severly diminished Immune Systems.)

This is just one of my many safety quirks when it comes to work.

Just gotta love cats, eh?
I got bitten on the leg by my darling kitty when I was five months pregnant and it got infected. Not nice. No antibiotics due to pregnancy. Answer? A wick drain and daily clean out for ten days. Hurt like a bastard.
I hope it's not infected, Cat.

Cat bites are HIGHLY infectious. Keep a close eye on it, it could well be the early stages of an infection.

Well it's not, yet that is. (I only got bit early this afternoon. Not long enough for an infection to form.)

If this does get infected then it will be the second infection from a cat bite in less than two years.

I had a Maine Coon for the longest time. Adorable little cat (okay, not so little; she was about twenty-five pounds and could reach my waist from the floor if she stretched). She was a stray when I found her, and she latched onto me in an instant, climbing up my body to my shoulder. She wouldn't leave me for days.

As she grew, she became much the dutiful little minx; she'd mew pathetically when I went to work, and follow me around when I was at home. When I'd walk up the street to the store, she would follow, wait outside the doors, then follow me home.

One night, when we were playing, she got a little worked up. I was wearing a pair of pajama botoms, the kind with the strings in the front that hung out. Well, she became more interested in the swaying strings than my hands, and went after them.

Yup.

Clawed me right on the head of my dick. Nasty little gash about a quarter of an inch long. In hindsight, I'm a little surprised it didn't get infected, considering the oils and whatnot that can be found on a cat's claws.

Bad pussy. Naughty pussy.

Cleaning the scratch led to lots of interesting shower situations, I imagine.

"I was not playing with myself in the shower. I was cleaning my dick and it just went off!"

(Hope you heal quick, Cat!)

I got to the "oils and whatnot" and started laughing. Only later did I see the "cat's claws" qualifier. I am still smirking though.... :D

And thank you for laughing at my pain . . . :p

I know, I'm horrible, I'm sorry. I am not really laughing at the pain, just the choice of phrasing that offered me the chance to give you shit...

Well, if I couldn't accept that, what kind of person would I be?

Reading back through that little story, I can see the humor.

Still . . .

Fuck you. ;)

*pat, pat*

There, there . . . have some warm milk. ;)

I was cuddling my beloved red burmese baby one day when my brother's dopey golden retriever (she'd just arrived at mum's place after a four hour drive and had been tranquillised for the trip - so really was dopey) came over to say hello.
Cat freaked and climbed me, with much scrabbling and use of claws.
He neatly bisected my nipple.

Now that seriously hurts.

Eep.

Nice hot salt water soak.

Will draw out any burgeoning infection.

And cat scratches can get infected that fast, it's one of the reasons they hurt so much, but it's still preventable at this point... just watch out for any red lines creeping up from the wound!
