It's been a long time in coming, but I've finally finished my registration and all that stuff. I"m now officially a college student again.

For those of you who have read my posts a way long while ago, I've wrestled with this for a while now. Seems that the only way I could really advance in my earning potential was to go back to school. I figured that if I was going back, at least I would do what I've always wanted to do. So I packed up the 31 credits I had already earned (back in 1987?!?!?), trucked down to the college, and got things rolling. They finished today.

I'm on my way to a music degree and a teaching certificate. One day, about 4 years from now, I'll be teaching High School Chorus - maybe to your kids (heh heh heh!). Sure, four years is a long time, but how many folks can say theyr'e going to do for a living what they've wanted to do since childhood?

Anyhow, I'm stoked about it, scared beyond belief (hell..my brain ain't what it used to be), and ready to get the party started. :)

Wish me luck! First class is tomorrow!

I envy you: CONGRATULATIONS

JazzMan--

If you're anything like me(we're in the same age range and have kids), you'll be fine. I've gone to school on and off most of my adult life. It gets better everytime. My last semester, I earned all A's.

My life is fuller and yet maturity goes a long way. Besides, wanting something makes all the difference. I'd love to teach, too. I have the same dreams, friend. I celebrate with you.

College campuses are now full of us(middle-age folk). You'll fit right in. Be careful: you might have to ward off the young girls who will be easily charmed by your talent and wit. :)

My eldest graduates next year. I might be on the campus with you by then.

Peace,

daughter

Good for you!

The most difficult step was getting registered. The rest will be cake.

I know this because I know you!

Way to go!

hugs

Miss T

I'm going back to college too...and I say the registration is the easy part.

Passing the classes...hard.

I hope I can keep these grades up.

congrats and big hugs to you JMJ.

Good Luck Jazz.. I also had 30 credits from 1988. I started again a year and a half ago and doing really well. The thing that I have found strange is that most of the people you will be in class with have no idea of things that happened in 1990 and before... which is fine 'cause it gives you an edge on somethings..:D Once again, good luck. The first step is the hardest.

Oh yeah!

Don't forget to have a little fun while your at it.

Congratulations!

I'm going back to college in September, and the following year I hope to start a Degree in Linguistics!! I've thought about doing it for ages, but my dad died last year and I have decided to actually do all of the things I want to do - life is too short to just think about it!

Good Luck!!

That's great news Jimmie that it is full steam ahead for you :) I wish you all the best. Learning is a great thing and being able to pass it on is also......

Much luck to you Jazzy. I'm sure you'll be faboo - because you actually care about what you're doing there.

Good luck Jazz Man. I too went back to pick up the credits I needed and found the hardest part was concentrating on the prof instead of the young guys.

Of course I did manage to play it up and get lots of special help from them. ;)

You definitely have the right attitude for it. Enjoy your learning.

Good for you! It's a lot easier the older you get. If you take night classes you'll find yourself with a whole range of ages from 18 to 68. If you take day classes, well, you might feel a little out of place at times, but the good looking girls make up for that. Hell, even some of the professors are hot. It's rare, but it happens.

Congratulations!!!!!!

I'm finishing up this semester, and I believe we're close to the same age. Don't give your age another thought. This is what you want, and desire is over half the battle when it comes to education.

Lit makes a great study break.

Hehehe...college boys are hot! :D

Serious though, Jimmie, that's awesome!

In the midst of cramming and test-taking, enjoy yourself!

My best friend is in her 30's and graduated from college last year. She found herself seeing life differently and feels all the better. It's not that uncommon these days. Grab hold of your dreams, I say. Good luck!

All the best, Jazz! I admire your courage, and your rewards will come quickly and result in working at something you truly love! Not many people take advantage of working toward their dreams. Enjoy your studies and have a great time.:)

Jazz

Way to go ! !!!!!

Don't be scared, I am sure you are going to have lots of fun & you are going to meet lots of new people. :)

More on the college info scene....

First of all, thanks guys, very much. Your faith in me really means a lot, especially since I'm not sure if I"m up to it. I'm going to do it, but it may involve lots of late nights hammering info into my head. The first thing on which I get graded will be my watermark. Once past that, I may just be fine. I'm just chasing a dream. I may or may not succeed famously at it, but I'll gett there. I want it too badly not to. Besides, how cool is it not only to be so heavily involved in something I love, but also to be able to mold young, malleable minds (muahahahaha!!!)

I'm not taking especially tough courses, and only four of them. I also managed to solve a real problem for me. As a Music Major, I have to take a certain number of Music History courses, which I'm dreading, mostly from seeing a good friend of mine go through those classes. She digs that stuff, but it bores me to tears. So I was figuring on having to just grit my teeth and plow through it. As it so happens though, one of the classes I'm taking fulfills the needs quite nicely: History of Jazz.

Nice. :D

On the good news front, I found out that I have an "in" with the Music Department chair. I ran into the Dean of the Drama Department, with whome I worked years ago when I was a student there before and he was basically a one-man drama department. We've kept cordial over the years and done some small things for each other when we've crossed paths. We're not friends, per se, but he seems to like me and wants me to get ahead as far as I can. Well, we ran into each other after I had registered and talked a while. Once he found out I was enrolled, and what I wanted to do, he offered to say a word to the Music Department head for me before my conference all casual-like. It doesn't hurt that the MD guy is also teaching my History of Jazz course.

Okay...so maybe I have a fighting chance.

A choir teacher?

I just got the wierdest image in my head of my old choir conductor on this board posting. THat would just be way to weird, imagine if one of your old teachers was on this baord posting! That would be weird, especially if you had cybersex with them!!!!
