Prima facie, you are correct.

Hollywood is infested with lecherous Democrat-Party-supporting slugs, and yes, there was hand-waving and attempts at suppression—"You will never work in this town again!" being the cliché.

However, as Iceprincess12 at least hinted, we aren't really sure how much they are victims. Some conservatives and libertarians will suggest that as these are grown women and should know better—even many of those under 18, know the reputation of Hollywood and how people are and can be exploited. Perhaps the greater blame should be in the rearing of children: there are predators and exploiters out there, and here's how to deal with them. Maybe sex-ed in school wouldn't hurt either.

There is also a history of conservatives using victims, real, imagined, or semi-, as weapons against liberals, Democrats, leftists. I suppose there are some who are truly concerned for such women, but many just want to use them to hit on the other side.

Look at Lewinsky. Yes, it was sexual harassment and Slick Willie lied under oath, and personally I wasn't too concerned about his impeachment—maybe Gore would have made a better president, and I think this was in his second term; but many Republicans likely saw Lewinsky as another weapon—some likely did similar, and more would remove protection from the abuse of women—real or imagined—they supposedly abhor.

As for your charge about the media, it's not like there isn't a strong conservative media, some of it going back for decades. In this forum, I have a thread about Lauren Southern, a right-wing—indeed alt-right—supposed reporter who goes around confronting likely marginalized people and making YouTube videos. I doubt she truly exposed anyone, at least not like Gloria Steinem did when she worked as a bunny at a Playboy club when she wasn't much older than Southern is now.

Some liberals, leftists, socialists, and feminists are being practical, or at least they are thinking they are. The sort of: "He's-a-bastard-but-he's-our-bastard." Maybe some of Weinstein's money helped a Democrat get elected who passed some legislation that made the lives of 100 000s, perhaps millions, of women just a little easier—maybe they could walk away from a lecherous employer more easily, while conservatives would go on about over-regulation, political correctness, welfare queens, etc.

You think Trump's better for women than Clinton? He might, but a lot of women don't think he is and they aren't stupid, so if you want to win them over, or at least some of them, it'd help if those who'd attack Weinstein and the Democrats he supported while in other posts yammer about femi-nazis, "locker room talk," monthly periods, gamergate (or WTF that is—I not being a gamer), et al, realize that the latter is affecting—tainting, if you will—the perceptions of the former.

Again, women, at least most of them, aren't stupid.

I don't think there's anything wrong with pointing out the transgressions of Hollywood moguls or the hypocrisy of Hollywood on this issue. It is a huge problem, and there's no question that Hollywood has been complicit in it for decades.

My objection to the thread is its contention that this will lessen the influence of Hollywood. I don't believe that. It won't. The people who think it reduces Hollywood's credibility are the people who don't listen to Hollywood anyway. Liberal people who like what stars have to say will continue to listen to what stars have to say. Hollywood isn't going anywhere, and its stars aren't going to shut up. Nor should they. They have as much right to speak on issues as anyone. Here's the thing: nobody ever shuts up because somebody on the other side of the political fence calls him or her a hypocrite.

The reality is that people make too much of "hypocrisy" arguments. Nobody really cares about hypocrisy, except the people who already are opposed to the alleged hypocrites on ideological grounds.
