When I was a little girl, there were many years when all we had for Christmas was decorating a tree that was donated by the local fire company. We would make beautiful decorations from construction paper and put tons of glitter on them in the midst of the flowing white glue.

The one year that comes to my mind was just incredible to me. This was the year that we came downstairs to find a room filled with presents that only Santa could have brought to us.

Santa, that year, happened to be the goodness of people we didn't even know. I believe that will always remain inside me and it is through this memory that I have given my son the desire to help others, not just at the holiday time, but all through the year.

I would like to extend an invitation to all of you to share in your most treasured holiday memories...whether it be sharing moments with your family, family traditions, or anything that left its mark upon you. It is really all about giving, sharing, and feeling the hope that is all around you.

Hugs to everyone,

I guess I'm feeling quite sentimental right now. It seems that it was only yesterday that my son sat on Santa's lap and cried his heart out. I remember doing the very same thing when I was a little girl.

My fond memory of that is when we lived in New Jersey and I went to the Mall with my son. I actually had to sit on Santa's lap, too. The crazy things you will do for your children. To this day, when I look at that picture, I laugh aloud and recount the story to him. Of course, he doesn't remember, but it will be my memory that I share with him that lingers in his mind for years to come.

If it's okay with you, there is another special memory I have during the holidays. It's baking cookies with my mom, grandmother and sister. We had our own little baking pans and little rolling pins and my mom would give us the dough that couldn't be used any longer. Our cookies were tough but, boy, they were sure delicious. Well, they were delicious to us. ha!

I hope you are all enjoying your holiday season. I will wish for you the brightest memories and the most vivid of dreams for a wonderful New Year.

Hugs to all of you.

Hello Q

I remember waiting up to catch Santa in the act.....never made it but he was
generous despite my actions.:)

One of my earliest memories is walking down the street in my new cowboy
outfit.....hat,vest,holsters,capguns,chaps and boots.....Wow...I was so happy.

My parents used to have an open house on Christmas Eve where all the family friends would drop by.
lots of good finger food, homemade christmas cookies, and of course carols
around the piano. In the morning we had to stay in our rooms until everything
was ready and when given the word would charge out to find what Santa had given
us, very exciting it was:)

Oh my god, let me tell you about food! Christmas morning after unwrapping presents we ate....
Homemade sticky buns
Applecugan
Apricotcugan
egg,sausage,cheese casserole
Bacon
Countryham
Grits
Fresh squeezed orange juice
Fresh brewed Gourmet Coffee

Later in the day.....
Roast Turkey and dressing
Rice and gravy
Waldorf Salad
Lima beans
Baked Sweet Potatos
Cranberry Sauce
Spinach salad
apple pie
strawberry pie
Ambrosia-(a blend of oranges, bananas, coconut, and cherries swimming in orange juice)
Homemade christmas cookies
More stickybuns if any are left over.

Needless to say....one can thunk their stomach and be reminded of a ripe watermelon at the end of such indulgences.
:)

Mr. John Roberts, Sir...

I have a feeling you made one very handsome cowboy. Thank you so very much for sharing these wonderful moments. Memories can bring such tender emotions filled with the wonder of what has happened to us during the course of our lives.

We never caught Santa either. There was a tiny little opening in the wood near the top of the stairs that my sister and I used to peek through. We thought no one ever realized we were there...but they did. Of course, this kept our spirit in Santa alive for many, many years to come.

Oh, would you please save me some homemade sticky buns this year and some cookies...and some....well, everything! These are a few of my favorite things.

Thank you, John Roberts, you are a very nice person. Please enjoy your loving whspr and make sure you give her the biggest cyber hug you can manage.

Hugs,
q

Yeh, I was a big Roy Rogers fan in those days and I watched every western I could lay my eyes on......:)

I can make sticky buns, I learned how because I was craving them out of season and my mom would not yield up her secret frozen stash. So I set out to learn how...
I don't bake many breads these days because I eat them...:D
I certainly don't need the extra inches on my waist.
But I will bake them for you anytime.:) :rose:

I certainly look forward to spending Christmases with whspr in the future and although I am somewhat of a curmudgeon I think she will take the sour out of my disappointment of adult Christmases......:)

A lot of memories....

Christmas has always been one of my favorite times of the year as far back as I can remember. It was time to spend with family and friends. I have sentimental memories and funny memories of Christmas past!!!

A funny one was the year I got my first stereo. I was about 13 or 14 I had asked for a stereo. I had been to a friends house Christmas eve and came home later that night. Needless to say I didn't pay any attention when I walked through our back room of the house. The next day I didn't see any big boxes under the tree for me so I was a little down but I took what I got with a happy but down . My very last gift I got was a picture cut out of the catalog that looked like the stereo I wanted. I was mad... my parents like to play jokes and I thought that it was just cruel to do that to me! Wrapping me up a picture!! I was ticked! I didn't blow my stack till my dad asked me to go the other room to get one of my nephews toys to put together. I huffed and puffed around (like a spoiled brat, glad I have grown up) and went out to the room I was just in the night before. Right there in plane sight was my stereo. IN THE BOX!! Mom laughed and told me she just wrapped a picture cause the box was too big to wrap!! I felt so terrible about it! But to show you all I have learned a lot ... I still have that same stereo and I am 29 now and it is in great shape still!!

That is the only one I remember at the moment!!

...that was a great story....

.......I remember a Christmas when my Dad was laid off and my mother had a part time job....I was about 13 or so and I understood money was tight...I had a ton of wants but didn't voice them because I didn't want to put the family in a bind. My brother knew I wanted a new bike but he promised not to tell....

...I came down Christmas morning and there was a new bike with a big red bow on it next to the tree...now, years later, my brother still remembers and talks about the ass whipp'in he got that day....
