One of the US major networks (I believe CBS, but I lost the news link) Is planning a television event: A miniseries about the life of Hitler.

While an obvious attempt at getting some contraversy going to generate ratings... I have to wonder about it.

I love watching Conan O'Brien's show and he has Hitler on all the time... Often Hitler is Chineese or doing something silly, like hulahooping. I love the Hitler bits. It's funny.

But this is going to be a life and times of the H-man (I doubt the false story about the goat biting his penis is gonna be in there). I think that should be very interesting to find how somebody attained that much power and had those ideas implanted in his head.

So will you watch? Are you offended by this? What's going on?

What's up internet?

hitler

Absolutely I'd watch it ... here's a question for you ... was Hitler the 2nd coming !!!!

Think about it (just for the controversy) ... but if he'd have come only 10 years later the world would have been much worse off ... 10 years earlier and the world wouldn't have appreciated what such a world war would do ... as they didn't in WW 1.

Anyway, send that to Conan ! :p

I'll watch it in non-offense. I think Hitler and the Nazi's are really interesting.

And the Conan bits are comedy-gold. Whatever happened to the Pimpbot?

The Pimpbot came with them during their visit to LA. IIRC he stayed there so he could pimp all da hos there.

I'm a big Conan geek.

Then there's GAY Hitler...

...as played by Chris Kattan on SNL. His view of history might be entertaining as well as giving the once and future Schickelgruber a self-despising quality reminiscent of Roy Cohn.

I think it would be a great deal more interesting to do a program on the history of Hitler's portrayal in Western popular culture, from Chaplin's "Great Dictator" to serious portraits like Sir Alec Guinness in "The Last Ten Days of Adolf Hitler." For our generation, these have had greater impact on our lives than the man himself, thank God.

Yeah... but that isn't funny.

If it is historically accurate I'll watch it.

Hitler was an interesting dude.

If they start playing with the facts, then no, I will find something else to do.

Yes, it would be a shame if this important and influential statemen were not given the fair and accurate airing he richly deserves. I hope they include the part about how he raped his own niece.

It's amazing, isn't it, that a guy makes a minor mistake -- exterminating more than 5,000,000 people -- and 57 years later, people still won't let it go. Why can't people just remember him as an "interesting dude," like this dedicated educator?

I feel a warm glow knowing that future generations of West Virgininians will grow up placing the hype about WWII and the Nazis in their proper context. Oh, plus slaves were mostly happy to be slaves and didn't actually desire emancipation, don't forget that part. Stick to your values, and one day one of your students will make you just as proud as James Earl Ray's homeroom teacher must have felt.

How much more info on this guy can there possibly be? Just watch the History Channel. All Hitler all the time.

Except for the parts about Stalin.

Yeah, I don't like the H channel.

But this is gonna have actors. Can you just imagine some happy actor making the phone call?

"Mom! Mom! I'm HITLER!!!!!!!!!"
"Oh Son! I'm so proud of you!"

I will probably watch it if it is historically accurate.

Anthony Hopkins played Hitler a couple years ago (in the eighies) in the not so bad movie The bunker.

Anyone seen Brothers of Arms??? What a wondeful miniseries, a must!!!! Its an HBO miniseries based on Stephen Ambrose's unit history of E/506th in
WW2.

Just as other terrible events in Human history, Hitler and his Holocaust has helped shape us and our world. I don't see the reasons behind not showing it.

Why, because it might offend someone. Can't have that these days. Devote hours of programming about Hitler? That's crazy talk.

/sarcasm

The History Channel, which is known colloquially as "The Hitler Channel," already devotes hours of prurient programming each week to Hitler and the Nazis and WWII. I doubt that this series will receive much notice--unless of course they include the goat incident.
