Hillary Clinton's name is being floated as a possible Secretary of State. Do you think that would be a good move for her/for the Obama administration?

I think she gets good press by having her name floated, but I think it would be sidelining her (so, good for the Obama administration, bad for her). I think she stays more in the mainstream--and the hunt--by grabbing a leadership position in the Senate and then running for governor.

Obama obviously wants her inside the tent pissing out rather than outside pissing in. She's a loose cannon.

My guess was attorney general, with Bill UN ambassador.

Hillary is too adversarial for SEC OF STATE, and she's a hawk. Not a good fit.

Governor Tim Kaine of Virginia has been "sortta" offered Attorney General, but will probably turn it down. (Also asked to be Democratic party leader, which he has already turned down.)

I can't see Hillary Clinton being even remotely interested in any cabinet position other than Secretary of State. (But, then, who knows how she scopes out her opportunities?)

The news is saying that Obama has been struck by Lincoln's selection of a divisive cabinet. Does he forget that Lincoln was assassinated and that some implicate his Secretary of War, Edwin Stanton, in that assassination--and that Stanton certainly crippled government functioning after the assassination?

Not to say that a bipartisan cabinet might not be a good thing.

I don't think she has the temperament to be a good Secretary of State. She's never struck me as the diplomatic type.

For Obama, it would certainly take away her ability to criticize the administration if she was part of it. I tend to agree that a run for Governor the next time it's available would do much more for her chances in 2016.

It will go to Kerry.

I base that on absolutely nothing.

Peggy Noonan sez Obama is trying to snag a Hail Mary pass, and if he misses the catch or cant get a goal...we're all fucked. So it makes sense to embrace his enemies and get their fingerprints all over the ball.

What I get the biggest kick out of is watching the pundits and prognosticators trying to out predict each other.

He will take his time, make his choices, and we will know when we know.:)

Your's is a safe call thats always true." We'll know when we know." You said something without saying anything.

Trouble is, high stakes bets are being made RIGHT NOW on which way the cat will jump.

Not really. I've been watching for a very long time. So, I know the unexpected can happen--unlike you and Box and Sev and amicus--who were always so positive about what would happen all of the time (while changing that from time to time) and coming up completely wrong.

So, yes, I always try to include that caveate.

Gore has apparently turned down "Climate Czar" even before it could be fleshed out as a new position.

I'm betting he picks James Carville for SecState. You need sombody calm and diplomatic in that position.

It's the primaries and early general election all over again.

Obama has shown patience and thoughtfulness in his decision-making whenever he has the luxury of it, as well as the ability to step up and make the quick statement when needed (see Palin, Bristol.)

He'll let us know when his decision is made.

If anybody says anything Mary Matalin will kick their ass, so he should be okay.

James Carville is scary smart, too. Wouldn't be a bad choice.

James Carville is going to be named Ambassador to Insectland.

I'm looking for William Ayres to be Secretary of Domestic Terrorism and Jeremiah Wright to be Secretary of Hysterical Polemics. William Rezko will Be Sec'y of the Treasury and Ron Popeil* will be Energy Czar.

*Note: I ordered a ShamWOW and it never arrived!

Hillary's a possible, but my money's on Bill Richardson (Gov. NM). Multicultural background, excellent speaker, and even as a state governor he's got a history of mediating international disputes evenly.

Was it really necessary to put (political) in the thread title? I'm quite confident no one was expecting naked pics of Hillary. Maybe it could have been confused for a call to Roll Playing...

It seems to be what has been the custom--because some posters has said they were tired of opening threads and finding them to be on politics. And this is politics. Why, is there a problem with providing the tag?

Let's see, Richardson can see Mexico from Santa Fe? Damn didn't that kind of comment get Pailen into a world of trouble?

His stand on a secure border sucks!

The population of NM is growing do to the influx of Illegal Aliens. They have no Voter ID requirements.

He was a Republican until he decided he could only get elected in New Mexico if he was a Democrate. He ran as a Democrate and was elected.to the U.S. House.

Interesting shifting values t0o get elected.
