High school... the best that it gets?

I've heard so many times from different people that high school is/was the best time of (their) life. For these people, I am truly sorry.

I don't mean to sound condescending, but whether you had a good experience in high school or a bad one, I would be mortified if I considered everything down from there (Personally, I found it to be nasty, brutish and (thankfully) short; but that's just me). If that's your view, then why the fuck keep going afterwords? Some people say the same thing about college. My response is pretty much the same.

I'm out of college in December and things are very interesting. They've been better and worse, but even on my best days, I've never thought, "Well, this is it, it's all down from here." I've had the best day to that point, but not for all time.

I think that the people who feel this way need to reinvest themselves in their own lives. If you think you've passed the top, make yourself find a new one. Look, try, see, absorb, read, feel, fail, succeed, evolve, become! Life only stops when you stop putting into it.

Please don't tell me that anyone here thinks of H.S. as the high point in their existence?

I'm sorry you're sorry but please don't be sorry you made me sorry and, yes, High School has been the high point of my existence.

It's only the high point because you've let it be. Don't let it! Push yourself! Make things or yourself better now than then! I guess that's the point.

P.S. ((((Never Again)))) Wasn't my intent to bring ya down! It just bums me out to see people quit!

I'm with you Jester. Highschool was horrible and wonderful all at the same time, same goes for college. But, if I thought for one minute that I'd already passed the peak and was headed downhill, I would be inconsolable. Cripes, I'm only 27 and what's the life expectancy?

I'm of the thinking that life has no ONE high point. We are constantly changing, evolving, and reinterpretating ourselves and our surroundings. Perhaps each era of our lives has a high point, or series of high points. But, as we turn the page on each of those eras we open the door to a new one, and new possibilities.

You're absolutely right, those people who feel as if they've passed that peak need to step back and think. There's entirely too many journeys in ones lifetime to continuously look backwards.

Definitely a LOW point in my life

High school, though fun at times, was mostly Hell for me. I never felt I fit in (though I discover now that I was one of the "cool" people that everyone wished they knew??) and I made some of the biggest mistakes of my whole life in High School. I'm now in college and though it is fun, I don't think it's really a high point either...

perhaps I just expect too much from life, and am missing the good things, the good "times"?

Didn't you know. Life just generally stink. There're no highs or lows. Just layers of shit. And then you pick a layer, and it becomes your shit.

Don't let the shit get you down!

Always look on the bright side of your life (de-dum,de-dumm)

Besides, if people didn't shit, they'd explode. It kind of reminds me of the ways of dealing with situations: adapt, evolve, migrate, or die.

Also: the lows let you appreciate the highs for what they really are.

IwantaroseIwantaroseIwantaroseIwantarose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's what I was thinking. Thank you, I'll cut you a bouquet when they're grown.

Betcha my layer of shit will smell lots better than yours! na na na na boo boo ;)

Interesting, high school was the high point of my life, therefore, I have 'quit'. Someone explain that logic to me. In addition, what have I quit?
"Let it Be." is just my mindset. I have an inherent distrust of trying to 'make things better' as everyone's definition of better seems to be different.

Never Again- sorry, just my philosophy, ignore as you please; if it makes you happy................

Alyrahh- Are we in bloom so close to winter? Mmmmm...warm...

pickpickpickpickpickpickpickpickpickpickpickpickpickpickpick;)

Jester, call me Aly, it's much easier to type. :)

As for it being close to winter, no worries sugarbutt, I've built a greenhouse on my layer of shit! lol

Let's see, high point of my life thus far? I don't know that I can name one single experience, high school was all right, and college now is misery. Though I wouldn't dare say high school is as good as it gets. Through out my life there have been good times, bad times, truely excellent experiences, and unbearably horrible episodes. And the best anyone can do is to learn from it all, and take every oportunity to make the future hold all the best times that it can. :)

goddess_euphoria- Yes! exactly. Learn from everything whether you'd want to or not. It all becomes you.

Hey Aly, that wouldn't be built like a brick shithouse would it? lol

Man life just keeps getting better for me. Never really went to high school so I guess those glory days were missed by me. Anyway I have found lying face down in the mud does not exactly clear your vision. Mud, shit, or misery they are all the same. When all else fails you can always offer to wrestle a sexy person. Xander what do you say two falls out of three honey? Just kidding!!!

Just kidding will now be my disclaimer that my comments are meant in a good lite hearted kind teasing way. GOT IT>>>

LOL!
That's one saying I've never quite understood, what exactly is so appealing about a brick shithouse? Oh, nevermind, I don't think I want to know.

Xander, the roses are in full bloom. I've always loved getting fertilized! lol

Aly, me neither. Always asked the person "Is that meant to be a compliment, because I just don't see it"

And, I'd have to say being around 10 was the high point in my life. Jester, am I now pitiful?

Hey Aly, can I have one from your ahem...well fetilized garden??? ;)

*ducking! awaiting a rain of rocks*

back to the thread,,,

Perhaps those years are viewed as the best of our lives due to having expanded freedoms and little if any expanded responsibilities.

Look at it this way,,, you had a new freedom to drive (be it a car or truck),,, if curfews existed at all, they were much later,,, there was this new found understanding of sex,,, the hormones were going ballistic, not just yours but everyones, so sex is now a definate possibility,,, there is increased access to drugs and/or booze with little or no ramifications for using either one,,, you most likely found a niche to fit into fairly comfortably with your friends,,, and quite possibly if you are at college, you are away from home for the first time, and away from the eyes peering over your shoulder at all times,,, a part-time job may be required to generate your own spending money, or that too may be a hand out.

In all likelyhood, you gained those freedoms and understandings without having to pay that stiff of a price for them,,, work part-time to "help" with the costs of school or insurance, or whatever,,, or not have to work at all so that you can focus on your grades and development,,, condoms or other birth control is easy to come by ( and hopefully you at least paid attention in sex-ed ),,, get busted for drinking, just a slap on the wrist is all that usually amounts to. No rent to worry over, no food bills to worry over, no insurance, no utilities,,, unless you choose to live outside of a dorm on your own,,,little or no pressure to provide for a family,,,

See a pattern here, anyone ? I'm not saying that everyone's high school days were like that,,, but, it does seem to be the norm in recent years rather than the exception.

And while I did not have all of that, I still look back with fondness ( for the most part )at my high school and college days for the carefreeness (is that a word?? It is now!! )of it.

As for considering those days to be the BEST of my life,,, not a chance in hell,,, they were comfortable and easy going all in all, BUT the best is yet to come,,, otherwise why continue on with life.
