I am a four foot ten inch woman – so heels are well, pretty much a part of my life… You have the most amazing advice on how to walk in heels, so, I just though I’d add my two cents on how to shop for them in the first place.
As mentioned by a lot of people earlier, start slow. Pick something that you can see your self walking in – say a two inch pump. Practice on that and then slowly progress upwards.
Another thing to watch out is the shoe construction. If you’re totally new to this and still want the height; but don’t mind loosing out a bit on looks, then opt for a pair of wedges. They provide height BUT without the pain; because they have more support.
Also, while buying shoes, always buy shoes whose heel has a lot of base… ie no stilettos! They look fab but kill your feet.
The heel of the shoe should be firmly attached to a good part of the shoe, and not be a thin strip fixed right at the end of the heel. Ok, if that sounded daft, this was the most in thing some time back.
Lastly, watch the arch of the shoe when your shopping. If the arch is too high, and you’re new to this, you will be a quite a bit of pain at the end of the day.
Have fun, trust me you have some fab advice above…and its not that difficult… just a matter of practice…
