1. Which genre do you look for when you log on to Lit?

2. Would you read the entire story if it's more than 4 pages?

3. Do you get angry if you end up reading a story that goes on for a long time and doesn't end?

1. I usually go to contest entries first, RCV, and then to new stories. I can find what I like in there using story tags, and can skim over the rest.

2. Of course, if it's worth it! I like long(ish) stories. The author has invested time and work into creating them, and the longer the better. I can get to know them better.

3. I don't get angry. Sometimes I'll bookmark something I'm interested in, especially if it's long and I only have a short amount of time to spend, but it never makes me angry.

4. Some of my favorite writers write in installments, and I always look forward to reading them.

1. Lesbian sex, Sci-fi, Romance, um...actually a lot of genres, just except the Mature, Loving Wives, and Incest.

2. I like long stories better than the short ones. I'm wordy.

3. Yea, especially if that's a good one. I can get so frustrated I grumble all day.

4. If it's enthralling, yes.

Hmm. I like New Stories, Fetish, EC, Anal and a few others, and will click on others just because. I'm not drawn to Incest or NonHuman. I'll read some authors no matter what category they post.

For some reason on the computer I like short reads and probably wouldn't read over 4 pages - so I tend to stay away from Novels/Novellas. I haven't gotten around to printing any out yet. I know I miss some good stories.

I don't know if I'd be angry, especially if in N/N, but I would prefer the author to say in the notes that it was a loooong, multi-part one. If it was a good story I'd be willing to read the next installment. Maybe part of my patience is that since I'm writing stories, I'm understading more and more how it goes.

1. Which genre do you look for when you log on to Lit?
Gay Male, sci-fi/fantasy. HOWEVER, I often look at taglines and titles and read stories that sound interesting no matter what the genre.

2. Would you read the entire story if it's more than 4 pages?
I usually start reading the story and only know how long it is when I get to the bottom of that first page. The story would have to be *really* engaging and well written for me to committ to longer than about 5 pages in a sitting. Remember, 1 lit page is about 10 regular pages; so an 8 page story is a good 80 page read.

Qualification: this does not mean that I won't read a story that is long BUT is also in multiple chapters. I've no problem reading a 200 page story if the writer has broken it up into 5 chapters of 4 pages each. I find it far more fun to read long stories on lit that way--"serialized" with cliffhangers-- than all in one long sitting.

3. Do you get angry if you end up reading a story that goes on for a long time and doesn't end?
Oh, yes. VERY angry. I can't speak for other readers, but I'm a writer and I can tell when a writer is spinning their wheels, indulging themselves rather than telling a story. If they have engaging characters, an intreguing idea and feel like they're going somewhere, then I'll go on a long time with them...but I don't want to feel like I'm watching the writer masterbate, page after page for 34 chapters

4. Would you read it's next chapter after spending a lot of time reading 4 pages?
If I've read through all 4 pages, then I'll probably go onto Chapter 2. If the story is not worth going onto Chapter 2, then, 99 times out of 100, I'll know it before I get to page 4. It's a rare story that can engage me all the way to page 4 and then, suddenly, at the very end, mess up badly enough that I'll refuse to go onto Chapter 2.

1. Which genre do you look for when you log on to Lit?

Smartass answer: AH threads. :D
Serious answer: When I come to Lit to read I generally look in New Stories for something that catches my eye first. Sometimes I'll hit the Top Lists, category depends on my mood of the day. Typically it's Gay Male that grabs my attention. I've read at least one submission in every category.

2. Would you read the entire story if it's more than 4 pages?

Yes, if it's engaging enough. One of my favorites, Will by BlackShanglan, is 9 Lit pages. :D

3. Do you get angry if you end up reading a story that goes on for a long time and doesn't end?

Angry? No. Frustrated? Sometimes. Begging for more? Hell yes, lol. Depends on the story. If it doesn't catch me by the end of the first page, I typically won't finish reading it anyway.

4. Would you read it's next chapter after spending a lot of time reading 4 pages?

If the first chapter was good enough that I read 4 pages, there's a 99% chance that I'll read the following chapters.

I write them long, myself.

But don't you hate it when they don't end? I always think it's because the authors don't know how to end a story. You hear some actually brag about it, not using plot, and then you see them on Chapter 14 of something.

1. Which genre do you look for when you log on to Lit?

I don't look for a genre - I mainly read stories from authors I know I will enjoy, and yes, most of those are people from the AH, although not all.

2. Would you read the entire story if it's more than 4 pages?

Absolutely, if it kept my interest for four pages, I don't see any problem with reading more. My favorite story here is Colly's The Furies, and it runs 15 pages.

3. Do you get angry if you end up reading a story that goes on for a long time and doesn't end?

Angry? No. It's not worth getting angry over. If a story keeps my interest, I'll keep reading. If not, I don't waste my time. If it doesn't end, I'd venture to say that I'd lose interest.

4. Would you read it's next chapter after spending a lot of time reading 4 pages?

Just depends. The amount of time already invested is moot - it's gone, and I won't get it back. Do I want to invest more time to keep reading? As I've already said, it doesn't matter how many pages it is if it's good.

Ah nice to hear you lovely people love an engaging build up to a story (which is what I wrote and now it's being edited; looking forward to your comments once it's submitted) :D

Umm, usually check out the new stories and the toplists, don't have a particular genre - but I won't read Incest very often.

2. Yes, if it's good enough.

3. If the story's going nowhere and pedalling on the spot, I'll back click.

4. Again, if the story's good enough.
My favourite story so far is Varian P's Changed Girl series. It's 15 chapters and each is 4 or more pages. The girl in question loses her virginity in Chapter 9.

1. I look for, in order; author, title, blurb and genre. If it's an author I know and like I'll read their work. If the title and/or blurb catch my interest, I'll read the story. Some genres I have no interest in; Gay Male, Incest and Fetish.

2. Yes I have, many times.

3. If the story's bad, I won't get as far as the end. Otherwise I don't mind.

4. If the story's good, I don't mind waiting for the rest.

I imagine if you do a search for "genre" you might find a few of the older threads that had similar themes to this one. Regardless, my answers:

1. Which genre do you look for when you log on to Lit?
Look for? Group Sex. But I scan the new stories list and will open anything that catches my eye. Primarily this involves Group Sex, Erotic Couplings, Anal, and Loving Wives. I'll read some BDSM if it fits my personal preferences (Mdom, with a real narrative and characters rather than just the oh so frequent you-I stories that pop up in that genre).

2. Would you read the entire story if it's more than 4 pages?
Sure, if it's good. But the "goodness" needs to increase with each Lit Page. I can tolerate a pretty good story for a couple pages, but if it goes beyond 3 it better have really grabbed me and hooked me in the first page or two.

3. Do you get angry if you end up reading a story that goes on for a long time and doesn't end?
I can interpret this two ways. I do get frustrated when I stumble upon an old excellent series that was never finished, but since I mostly browse the New Stories list, it's primarily active authors.

As for long serials, again, it depends on the "goodness" and is very story dependant. It's a lot like TV. Shows like Lost need to have an endpoint, but stuff like The Simpsons or South Park can go on forever.

4. Would you read it's next chapter after spending a lot of time reading 4 pages?
If I stuck in long enough to read 4 pages that means I liked the story, so I'd definitely read the next chapter.

One word of caution: the Author's Hangout is not reflective of the "typical" Literotica reader. It's mostly authors, who like longer stories, crave character development, and generally aren't that into paint-by-numbers stories that are the erotica equivalent of the Pirates of the Carribean sequels. The "average" reader leans much more towards "stroke" and has a much shorter attention span. Good stories will always find audiences, but longer stories often have a much narrower, niche appeal.

1. I check the New Story List first. I'll read most cats--especially if it's an author who's work I like. Lesbian Sex, Erotic Horror, Incest and BDSM are among my favorites.

2. Yep. One of my all time favorites is "Lost in Texas" by Evil Alpaca. It runs five looong chapters--but it's a easy, fun read.

3. I can usually get the drift of where a story is going after one or two pages and if I like the writers style I'll continue--for a while anyway. But angry--nope.

4. I bore easily--and I hate poor writing--so if you aint got me by the first page or two--I'm gone!

I enjoy certain stories in various genres. I like Gay male, lesbian, incest, group, and erotic couplings.

I have read many stories that are longer than 4 pages. Will by Black Shanglan and The Furies by Colly are two of those.

I don't get angry, I usually don't have time to read anything in one sitting anyway, so I read it a bit at a time

If something has held my attention for four pages, I am willing to give it more.

This is my first post to this section, but I'm going to jump in with both feet.

1) I don't come to lit for the stories. I come to lit for the boards. I find my reading material elsewhere, mostly fan fiction and original fiction sites. I don't mind sex in my stories, but I like my stories to have a plot to go along with the sex. I also don't like the display format on lit.

2) Before I make an idiot out of myself are you talking about a LIT page? Is there a limit on the size of the files? Since I've never posted to any of my work to lit, it's hard for me to judge what four pages is.

Frankly I like long stories and tend to write them that way myself.

3) A never ending story is almost, but not quite as bad as a story that has been abandoned unfinished.

4) see my answer to number 2

1. Depends upon my mood at the time.
2. If the story is worth it, I will read the whole thing, if not I might quit before the end of the first page.
3. If a story drifts aimlessly, chances are I don't even finish it. If it is a good story and reaches some sort of resolution, I would look forward to the nmext installment.
4. It depends entirely on the story.

1. Which genre do you look for when you log on to Lit?
Lesbian. The only time I'll explore any other genre is if someone I know has posted a story in one.

2. Would you read the entire story if it's more than 4 pages?
Not likely, unless it's for a contest and I'm friends with the person who submitted it.

3. Do you get angry if you end up reading a story that goes on for a long time and doesn't end?
No, don't be silly. I may lose interest, but I can't imagine actually getting angry.

4. Would you read it's next chapter after spending a lot of time reading 4 pages?
If I managed to stay interested in a story for more than 4 pages (and for the record, the story would need a decent amount of plot to keep me that interested), then I would most likely be keeping an eye out for the next chapter.
