I spent yesterday over at Toms place fabricating a new firing pin for an old Iver-Johnson pistol. While we were working the subject of Ornyx hunting came up.

He showed me pictures of the hunts he was on and described the hunts. And went through the experiences he encountered while he was with Game and Fish.

Cutting to the chase, they're hard to bring down and there's nothing in your armory up to the task. His call is a 300WM min. You can count on the avg. shot being in the 200-300yd window.

See that hump on their back? It's called the "Lion sacrificial muscle." If you're even a little high with the shot, that's what you hit and it doesn't faze them in the least.

When does that season run? Lottery? Taste good?

I'd have to look up the dates, but it's in the late spring, early summer. Hot! Hit the state game and fish for the details, but most hunts are by drawing. I'll talk to Shaun about 'sure thing' tickets.

As far as taste goes, at the xmas get together Tom brought an stew that his wife had prepared..........delicious.

Hunting with weapons for sport seems a bit unfair.

It should be hand to hoof combat.

The hunts are in S. Central New Mexico, or you can fly to Africa. :D

For Iver-Johnson parts try these two sources;

Bob's Gun Parts.

Numrich

In the case of the pistol we were working on both suppliers had sold out so we had to fabricate a new pin from scratch.
