I actually got a reply from a Playground person THANKING me for posting this goofy thread title last night in the heat of the board breakdown madness. At that point, it wasn't a real thread and no one could really post here. Me included.

Anyway, it seems the sig lines have gotten out of line over here for even many of the regular Playground people according to the PM I got. That's too bad, actually. I had no idea.

So why do you people try to "outdo" each other in sig line length? Is it kind of like trying to brag about who has the biggest cock?

Its all about showing the inner you. Didnt you know this Chey? :D

I no longer have sigs on cause of what is on alot of them.

no, not entering any contest to upset the ones with dial up just because I have DSL, I like a lot of people have either removed the stuff from the sig lines or shortened them. but hey if you guys want a contest just let us know we will start decorating again:rolleyes:

shorter then what it was before

Thank goodness for that.

I have sigs turned off because of flashing sigs and bright colours.

It is my choice to avoid things that can cause me to have migraines. Like the flashing gifs etc.

And I am not the sort of person that tries to tell people what to do. But some of the flashing crap, bright colours can cause seizures in epileptics.

I turned sig lines off a long time ago. The board is much faster and easier to read that way.

thats why mine no longer has the flashy stuff in it. but I am not cutting it any shorter either. I respect people with their health issues and wishes but respect mine too on my freedom of speech, I just want a compromise because I compromised

You can compact your sig like mine is to say what you want to say without having a frigging long sig.

But then no one is forced to SEE it, Debbie.

Right!! And isn't that the most sincere form of interest in in a person? When you are actually willing to click on something to see their sigline?

I mean, how else do you know who your real online friends are?

Hey, Cheyenne

Cute idea for a thread.

Yes, some people at Lit. (and not only in the Playground) have gotten carried away with sig lines.

But your inventiveness and good humor is appreciated over here. We ought to have more interaction of a positive nature.

I'm sorry I missed the fun last night. It seems as if you and others made the best of the situation.

WELL CUM to the Playground. I hope you visit often.

My husband paid you to say that, didn't he? :p

And thanks. It WAS good fun. I'm glad it was taken as such.

I, not being at Lit enough to get involved in heated debates and such, just found out from reading some threads what all the hoopla is about regarding sig lines.

I have now cut mine down, due to knowing the situation and hearing POLITE statements about short being better in threads because of tech issues here.

An imbecile on GB rudely mentioned to me about my sig; I put the person in check.....all this person had to do was politely explain the situation to me or refer me to a thread about it. LOL! Some people....

Anyway, I'm not a competitive person. I never want to "outdo" anyone. I just put in my sig line whatever I like. I think most people feel the same way regarding sig lines.

I think it is best to keep a single thought or quote in your sig. line and then change it when you want to present a new thought or quote. That prevents the technical problems. If a person chooses to use a picture or graphics, those, too, should be kept to only one.

I will read and appreciate a short sig. I just ignore long ones (sig lines, that is;) ).

My current problem is that I have forgotten how to change my sig line. I've had the same one for over a year. It is probably time for a new thought.

Anything wrong with my sig line? or should I even ask?

:) Hey!

I say do whatever you feel is right for you.

If it was that big of a problem, the owner of this site would ban sig lines altogether. As in this case, you can still have it as long as you want.

I ONLY shortened mine because of tech issues, certainly not because of pressure from others to cut it down. After that rude comment, I was going to leave my original sig line up for a LONG time until I found out what was going on technically.

Look up. Hit the "control panel" and then "edit profile."

And I agree. A single thought or quote is about as much as most people will pay attention to anyway. Longer than that and they just get skipped.

But the same thing can go for really long posts. I tend to skip or scan quickly those, and I know others do too.

For me, it depends on the person. If the person is very interesting to me, I don't care how long their sig line (or post) is; I'll read it. If I find the person insipid or rude, I don't care how short their sig line is; I wouldn't read it anyway.

Frankly, I don't give a damn if some people don't want to read my sig line if it's too long. There are always people who will be interested in what I have to say and will read it.

So, what you're saying is that those long sig lines are the poster's way of expressing their inner selves?
And the lack of sig line says to the world that you've nothing to say I guess. :p

~kym~ searching for my inner self :D

Yes. There are a few posters on the GB who ALWAYS write a novel for every post. I don't read them, they take too much time and often talk in circles anyway.

I think that actually, most people don't bother to read ANY sig lines and the ones that are longer are just annoying because they take up more space and are ugly in some cases.
