To start off, I hate playing cop. It's unfortunate that because some people, particularly in a certain other forum, abused a privilege and got us cease & desisted one too many times, I have to crack down to keep us out of legal trouble.

I'm not trying to rain on people's parade, or make things less fun, or make up rules so I can spend all day enforcing them. Bottom line: I don't want to be sued, & I don't want to have the site shut down for copyright violation. The last cease & desist fiasco took a lot of time to resolve because the lawyers were intentionally being difficult. I'd rather spend my time working on our new journal site or fixing up the BB than arguing with lawyers.

We spend a lot of time searching for sites that "borrow" Lit stories, so it would be hypocritical to demand that they remove the copyright material they "appropriated" while I allow people to take photos from other sites and post them here.

If you take the photo, you own the copyright. If you didn't take the photo and you didn't license the photo from the person who created it, you don't. There's some gray area in the middle, but that's the gist.

Yes, it sucks. I'm sorry.

Laurel and Manu have to protect themselves but it does suck. The re-use of a few photos shouldn't be that big a deal - in fact I think it only brings more people to the sites that are referenced. But Lit needs to cover their butt and we need to respect that.

I do think though that it would be OK for us to provide links to the pics rather than the pics themselves... yes?

Since when is pornography intellectual property especially if it comes from a free source.

It's bullshit. You write a story and "publish" it on the internet and it's out there. Free game. You want to make a buck? Publish it in a hard copy and sell that.

Of course, people could charge a fee to join a site and then that is, as they say, that.

It's a new world. Creators need to deal with it.

Anyone wanna copy of a music CD? Oh, no problem! Even the most law-abiding citizens through that one out in the dirt. It's just the way it is. People don't give a fuck. And I think that when I post a pic of a pornhound, they probably would thank me for the advertising.

I know you could not give me consent because that would open up all kinds of doors. But you know I am right.
