Just wanted to be able to say this for a few seconds... as of 4:52 am PT, I'm number 1 on the "Anal" list with a perfect score. 12 votes. Now I'm never ever ever going to check my scores again, so I can legitimately entertain the fantasy that it will remain there forever.

My story hit the novel/ novella top list at number 13. But the huge surprise is the amount of feedback I have had on the story. I have had more feedback on "Educating the Capo" tgonight, than I have received for all of my other efforts combined.

I can see I'm going to have typists finger from replying to them all. And don't I love it.

It's a mystery to me -- I posted two other stories at the same time, and one of them (in the "NonHuman" category) only has a handful of votes and has gotten almost completely lost in the mix.

A lot of it seems to be pure serendipity -- if a story shows up on the first page of the "New" list, if it gets an "H" quickly so more people read it right away, if it scores high so it's in the upper half of the "Top" list for that category, then it'll get lots of votes. Otherwise it might get almost none. (And "openthighs" probably doesn't hurt.) And I do think that some kinds of stories will draw more votes regardless -- first person stories might do better in that respect because the reader feels (rightly or wrongly) that she's already acquainted with you.

What's really cool is that now I'm getting lots of feedback on other (older) stories, too. Screw the top list, anyway...
